The Best Of...

OK, here's a thread to tell everybody about the best of something.
This evening, when Ezzie and I were sitting on our front deck, and brushing our golden retriever Ace (the dufus dog), the sun was sliding towards melting into Lake Michigan, and the temperature and humidity became comfortable, and the hummingbirds were engaging in their daily war over the feeder... it simply hit me that life really is good. We all have so many blessings to be thankful of, and I honestly have never in my life been happier! So that's my best of a summer evening story folks... so what is you best of story?
Oh yeah, the sparkle kilt adds a lot to my life as well!

My best of being a mother story..........
Though my son is truly a cutie pie, he can get ornery like most children approaching the devilish age of 2!
I am human and run out of patience and get frustrated with things. He will go in and keep flushing the toilet or he will play in the dog and cat water, splash splash splash!! He will whine if I don't give him a "Nana" right away! I mean, literally act like I am starving him for a banana! He will go limp if I am trying to lead him somewhere he doesn't want to go. He will take a hand that has maple syrup on it from his waffle and decide at that moment to rub his head! Frustrating right??
Not all of it. Not so much! I do get frustrated but I also learn to enjoy the small moments. These times with my child that are "making a memory". He is growing up so fast already and I am imprinting in my mind the smell of him as an infant, the first smile, the first step.....and more recently....the childish glee and cheeky grin on his face as he is splashing the dog and cat water. The excitement he gets when we get to the grocery store and he says "Nannaaaa, whee awww yeewww" (Banana where are you?!)............and then when he gets one at home, the sweet way he says "Tank yew....tanks!" and yes, one of my favorite things is as the day goes on...though I had cleaned him up.....getting a cuddle and him smelling like maple syrup. These are the moments to cherish because they are only little for a short time.

My best comes in the form of many things. First an formost our my children: the best thing comes in the form of a girly giggle and those cute little freckles that she just got this year--or watching my son, at six, trying to master skateboarding and hearing him calling out--I love you mum (that's not going to last forever) The feel of my husbands hand on my back letting me know that I can do anything I set my mind to. And the feel in the air as summer slips closer to fall and knowing that I too can change just like the seasons.0

Thanks for this postive thread!!!:drinker:
My best...I went for my after dinner power walk, alone tonight. Usually I puch a double stroller and have my 5 yr old ride his bike while my husband walks behind him. Being alone, I was able to reflect. Mainly because the sun was bright red/orange and the sky was amazing it made me think... What a great life I have. I am FINALLY making myself a priority and taking care of myself. My children are happy and healthy. My husband could not be more supportive and love me more than he already does. I love my job. I am truly blessed. When I am down, I have my friends and my MFP family to help pick me up. How awesome it is to have so much love around me. Sometimes in life we need to take these moments and realize just how lucky we are and focus on what we have. Life is good!
Thanks again for this :flowerforyou:0 -
Jamerz, first of all thank you for this thread and thank you for the fun that you and Ezzie bring to into our lives. It has been a somewhat crappy week for me and I need to take time to remember all the blessings our family has...
The best of....health! Myself and my children are all healthy individuals and if you have your health, you have everything. We do not suffer with daily or lifetime health struggles and that is such a blessing!
The best of...summer....we belong to a private swim club here in town and have for the past three years. Since we don't take vacations, it is our summer long vacation and we go a lot. Many times during this season I have sat back and enjoyed the laughter of the children (mine and others) playing in the pool, the excitement of my son and daughter being bold enough to go off the diving board or down the water slide, the quiter evenings when the temperature is pleasant and the sun begins to set bringing shimmer to the waters. We are truly blessed in being able to go, laugh, and relax in the family friendly, safe environment. How sad that on Monday, another pool season will be over....
Many blessings for safety and happiness this holiday weekend.....0 -
Let's see......
I'm going to list the good things that happened today...
Hubbz and I were able to actually sit and watch Charmed this morning without interuptions!:noway:
The morning went by very quickly b/c the girls were so well behaved:smooched:
Sara woke up from her nap in a good mood!.. well, sorta but still!
The girls chose sandwhiches for dinner so it was an easy din din today!:drinker:
To top it off.... hubbz and I gave the baby making another go:blushing: :smooched:0 -
The best thing about summer for me is taking an evening walk on the boardwalk with my best friend and (sometimes) stopping for an icecream which we eat while talking about whatever is on our minds and in our hearts.0

My best part of the summer was going to NYC with my 3 grown (21,23,25) children.
I can too can still smell the maple syrup in their hair. They are all wonderful adult human beings and I am so thankful god loaned them to. :flowerforyou:
It was wonderful the way they got along (you always worry as they grow they will have nothing to do with each other later on...especially when the boys are throwing down in the living room when you come home from work)
the absolute BEST was when my oldest son saw me when I arrived. the look on his face, tears in his eyes...really?....you look GREAT mom!
We then proceeded to walk for 8 hours. I had no aches or pains, they didnt have to stop so I could rest.
I didnt have to carry a bag of drugs with me.:noway:

My best of moments are realizing that true happiness does not come from having everything that I thought was important when I was 20 or 30 or 40. The big house, lots of possessions, keeping up with the neighbors....been there...done that...found out it wasn't much fun! Nope, I have personally found out that the best things in my life were always with me no matter what else was going on. My husband has been the most stablizing influence in my life for the past 25 years and without him I would be lost. He gave me the strength to battle through three different types of cancer just so that I could grow old with him. My kids have also contributed more than just the gray hairs on my head, they have had the ability to show me how to have fun and how to not care what other people think. My two closest friends have shown me that it is okay to have diverse interests, they would not enjoy each others company but I can be myself with both of them at any given time. Life is good and it just keeps getting better and better with every turn and bend in the road.0

Some of my best moments:
The day I discovered the peace and serenity in a yoga pose. Right now, I can only find it in a handful of poses, but that moment is worth the 8 years of training.
When my husband gives me an enormous hug in the morning or when he gets home from work - even if I'm a mess.
When we sit on the couch every night and talk and watch the cats goof off.
The first day my dad did a headstand in yoga. It was incredible. I know he comes to yoga because he loves me.
Road trips with my mom.
Train trips with my husband. Any trips with my husband. Any trips
Anytime I go further or faster than I have before.
Times when I'm feeling down and a cat comes and purrs next to me.
Getting in the car and seeing a full tank of gas.
Coming home and seeing the dishwasher has been emptied.
The first time I saw the grand canyon and the Redwood National Forest. I like rocks. I also like trees.
The few times I get to workout with my little sister - our trip with my mom to Hilton Head was incredible.
After teaching a yoga class and someone comes up to me says, "that was just what I needed."
I'll shut up now...0 -
Being married:
Sitting at the top of the stairs we are having built, watching an awesome Lake Michigan sunset and thinking of the sign that hangs in our home:
"All because two people fell in love"
The joys of kidz:
Having your youngest (then 25..) call and say in all seriousness " Mom, I think I need some advice..
(Wow, REALLY, he's actually asking ME for ADVICE....OMG, I think the Earth just stood still!)
I think I need to buy a crock pot.....     He's actually the chief cook in the marriage, and I'm proud to say, he does an excellent job!!

PS. There's another sign in our home....

The best thing I have is LIFE. When I step back and look at things... I really have a hard time choosing just one.
My most vivid "best" moment is when my fiance became my wife.
There's countless others. Time spent with lost loved ones, time to sit alone in the woods or by the lake alone and think, time with friends, watching the sunset on the horizon of the Atlantic while on a cruise.
About 10 years ago I lost a dear friend at the age of 16 (both he and I) It was a turning point for me... I truly cherish LIFE. It is a wonderful thing and we all get frustrated and wish, in the moment, things would be different, but reflection always puts things in perspective for me.0 -

If I may be permitted to post another "best of" I would say that one of the best things that happened to me this summer was finding this site and gaining a wonderful new family in you all. You'll never know how much that means to me to be able to call you "my family". Hugs to you all.:glasses:0

The best of my summer is coming back this week from the Poconos after having a GREEEAAT time with some GREEEEAAATTT sex with my spouse. It has been a long time since we had a vacation, and we were drifting apart after 18 years of marriage. I honestly did not believe that at age 52 my body could contort in so many different ways, but it was worth every bit of it. Now our marriage is back on track. We both realized that all work and no play makes a fruitful ground for a divorce ::drinker: :drinker:0

OMG ladyhawk, you and hubby go, go go! You are just sooooooooo righ tthat all work, and career, and kidz, and all the *other* stuff that the world wants you to believe is important... actually isn't! I have sooooo been there, done that, and yup, bought the divorce. But, in fairness, it should be noted that we had some very unsurmountable issues. (sumpn 'bout a lot of shoes under my bed that weren't mine) But taking time for just the two of you, that's truly a best of! Somehow, Ezzie and I have discovered that little priority, and that truly helps to keep the intimacy (physical, emotional and spiritual) to be an important aspect of (not just) our marriage, but who we are as people. You rock on sista, luvya!0
