G'Day from Australia :-)

Hi all,
What a great site! I found MFP in the apple store and thought oh well, might as well try it. I've tried all sorts of different diets and eating plans before (including BT) but nothing is easy to sustain. No carbs (no energy to move or do anything!), low fat (no taste!), low sugar/ Low GI (headaches, sugar withdrawal!) etc. I've tried the lot... Long story short, MFP works! I knew I ate too much, and I've always liked the carbs and sugary stuff, but this app makes you think about what you are really putting in your mouth. I have to watch my sodium intake as well as the total calories, so this has been my focus. So far, I've lost 4kg (about 8 1/2 lb I think).
The database is great, but could use some more Aussie brands/ products, especially now that our two big supermarkets (Woolworths and Coles) are getting rid of major brand names and replacing them with their own homebranded products. The inclusion of Aldi products in the database is terrific too - great way to save money as well as lose weight!
My family are becoming quite interested in MFP also. They see me keying in my own recipies and reading/ keying in the nutritional information from food packaging and are starting to ask "Is this worth eating or should I eat something else?" What a great tool for teaching better/ healthier eating.
Anyway, feel free to say "G'Day" - whether you live in Oz or not :-)

I am also new here from Oz - recommended by friends.
I must say it is working wonders after a poor start at easter where I put on a couple of kegs (bio-impedance showed it was mostly muscle) I have been on a pretty steady/rapid decline since. Haven't made any massive changes to diet, just think more carefully before putting something in my mouth - and stopped a lot of binging.
We shop mostly at aldi so most of our food is covered, which is great otherwise i either enter it as quick cals, or find a brand that is a similar match.
My wife is also impressed and I will download and set it up on her iPad this weekend!0 -
Hey to you from Sydney.
I've found there are a fair few Aussie things on here, and of course as rnroadrunner said, its easy to add products as you use them to help build the database. We shop at Aldi as much as possible as well.
Wish I could get DH into MFP, I tried but he just hasn't the interest yet. I'll convert him yet!!0
