high weight loss - unhealthy?

Hello all!
Okay, so this past week I've started to try and eat healthy again - hopefully it will stick! I'm full every day and try to eat unprocessed foods (aside from the protein shakes  ), sneak in more veggies, get more protein, etc. I exercised about 3 times so far, recording those cals burned. My Cals are set to 1460 which I never go below, with a 1000cal deficit built in. I eat back 50-100% of exercise cals. My job is teaching elem. and jr. high school students which is why I chose "lightly active." I also drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Here's the question: in 6 days, I have lost 7 lbs and it kind of scares me (though I haven't seen it in the mirror....:frown: ) I'm full every day and eat at least 1450 cals/day. Am I more active than I previously thought and starving myself? Should I up the cal. allowance?
Any opinions would be appreciated!

A lot of this could be water weight. Especially if you didn't drink a lot of water previously. Cutting your sodium intake and drinking lots of water releases all the water that your body has been holding due to consuming too much salt.

I'm trying the Dukan diet its high protein ,low fat. so far its been really easy to follow check it out its geeting real popular in the states.I haven't been hungry
  • It's probably more water lost than fat. I lost quite a bit in my first week of my healthier lifestyle too. I wouldn't worry about it unless you continue to lose rapidly.

It's probably water weight. If you have a lot of weight to lose in the first place, it might come of fairly fast in the beginning but it should slow down.

I agree with TristaMarie, it's probably water weight. Generally when you first start eating healthier and working out you lose the water your body was hanging on to. You may see another big loss next week and then after that it should level out to a healthy pound or two a week.

I wouldn't worry about it atthis point. When people first start dieting and eating healthy, they tend to drop a lot of water weight early on. If it continues beyond a few weeks, you may want to re-evaluate your activity level/calories burned vs you calories consumed.

When I first started my journey in my weight loss I lost 9 lbs in the first week. My cals are 1200, less than 10-15 tsp of sugar a day. Now let me tell that I am on on a medical weight loss plan and I did contact them as I too was concerned with such a huge loss all at once. I was told not to worry. The first week or two is mostly all water loss. I was told keep drinking losts of water, taking my multi vitamins and suppliments, it will slow dowm. Sure enough it did. Week 3, 4 pounds, and so on. Just my 2cents worth. Keep it up. Good job!

I started at about the same weight range you are, and the same thing happened to me the first week or so. Your body is adjusting to healthier food, lower sodium, appropriate calories, more water. Enjoy--you're on the right track!
