I don't understand...

I weigh myself everyday at the same time. Every time I look at the scale it's either I gained, stayed the same, or hardly lost any. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! It's very discouraging to look at and I'm kinda close to giving up and say, "Maybe I'm meant not meant to be small." I really want this to work because this is my last option. Please help.

Since fluctuations are normal I only weigh myself once a week. Sometimes it is HARD not to weigh n between. Especially on Fridays. For some reason I REALLY want to weigh myself on Fridays lol.0

Things that can affect your weight from day to day (and even hour to hour)
-sodium
-hormones
-sugar
-fiber
-dehydration
-excess water intake
-water retention in muscles
It does not make sense to weight yourself everyday - the scale is only good for the big picture. If you weigh yourself once a week, you can get a sense of the trend. If you weigh yourself everyday, you will only see that your body is not a stable system.0 -
So I know this isn't going to solve your problem but......
I was the same way. What I eventually had to do was not weigh myself every day! I would start a healthy eating plan and then give myself two full weeks before I even think about getting on a scale. That way I don't get discouraged every day.0 -
Weighing yourself daily is not a good idea. Only people who are fully prepared to see gains when they did everything "right" can do that kind of thing. There's too many fluctuations in weight from hormonal & other things. You are correct in doing it at the same time of the day each time - that's important. But pick a day of the week and do it then. And don't forget about Non-Scale Victories!! NSV's are VERY VERY important! Do you feel better in your mood when you eat right? Can you go up steps better? Are your clothes looser? Notice all the "little" things because they are worth WAY MORE than a # on a scale.

I seem to be having the same trouble too...I think mine is from retaining water. I drink at least 12-8oz glasses a day & your weight now is close to my goal weight! Don't give up! I won't give up either because even if I don't loose actual lbs. I still loose inches & feel better about myself. You can do it!0

DO NOT WEIGH EVERY DAY!!! Fluctuations are normal, weigh weekly, same day, same time, this will give you a more subjective indication.0

I know it may sound crazy, but I don't think your eating enough! Try grazing more-even just carrots, celery, other really low calorie foods. The idea is to keep your metabolism humming throughout the day, so give your body something to burn! Some reason to be working and awake throughout the day!0

I think you should split meals. I find it more fulling than eating three big meals. And snack on fruits and veggies. Maybe try some smoothies? I personally love them as a breakfast idea Track your sodium intake - sodium makes you look bigger from retaining water. AND WEIGH YOURSELF WEEKLY, NOT DAILY. Good luck!0

I've recently trained at the YMCA and my trainer told me the same thing - I'm not eating enough. I think it does sound crazy because what I'm trying to do is limit on my food intake. And I'm kinda scared to overeat.0 -
You are so smart! I never thought about it that way before! That is brilliant advice! Thank you from me as well!0

9 lbs in <6 wks! That's fantastic. Don't forget to look at the WHOLE picture, not just that # on the scale everyday. They say (whoever they are) not to weigh daily, but I do just cuz I don't wanna accidentally gain a bunch in a week. Sounds like you're doing great to me. However, the more you lose & the closer to your goal you get, the harder it gets & the slower the lbs. come off. Patience, my dear. & increasing exercise can help, too, tho muscle weighs more than fat so it might not "show" on the scale right away. But muscle also burns more calories (that's 1 reason guys can usually eat more than us!) DONT GIVE UP. Why do you call yourself violingirl (just curious)0

Vikingirl - I wounldn't weigh everyday. I was doing the same thing and the same thing happened to me. I was told to weigh once a week at the same time, it's best earley in the am. With water retention and other things your body does your weight fluctuates dailey so by weighing dailey you don't get a true reading. Good luck, Jeanne0

Violingirl - Sorry I got your name wrong on my last post.0

You're not eating enough. Trust me, you have to feed your body properly in order to lose. You may lose at first by limiting calories, but it will not last and your body is suffering for it. By not eating at least 1200 NET calories, you are stalling your metabolism and starving your body. I know it's hard to start eating more, especially because you'll likely see an increase in your weight when you do, but then it will level off and your body won't be scared anymore. You have to eat to lose, and you have to eat to properly take care of your body.0

9 pounds lost in 6 weeks is an incredible loss and more would be unhealthy, you should be very pleased. Because you want to speed up this process and want to weigh everyday I tend to think that you are your own worst enemy by being impatient. Enjoy your success, stop stressing and be sure you eat your recommended calories each day and you will have results.0

Dont weight every day you should weigh once a week on the same day, then you will see the difference.Doing it every day is the worse thing you can do!!!!!0
