My Motivation-- wrong but oh so true

"And those of you who brought up the "what if she was normal sized/ thin/ emaciated", yes, I would judge her the same way, but no, I probably would not bring up the weight part."
You do realize you contradicted yourself in one sentence right? Seriously, stop talking.0 -
I have never met someone morbidly obese that is not what I consider to be a horrible person, whether that be outwardly shown or not. After all, you cant have respect for others if you do not have respect for yourself. These people do not.
I'm coming back to a healthy lifestyle because I respect myself. I respect others who respect themselves. But mostly because I want no part of me to EVER be like that woman, or others like her.
WOW....not what I expected when I open this topic.
All I can say is that I am sorry for your experience with this woman, but being morbidly obese myself it does really bother me that people on this site are sterotyping to this extreme. Yes I don't make the best food choices, and I enjoy eating out rather than eating healthy food but I am not lazy. I work sometimes 14 hours a day Friday through Sunday, I go to school full time Monday thur Thursday. If it hadn't been for my friends encourgement I would still be a BBW AND PROUD of it. So please don't go judging others based on one person.
The thing is, it's not just one person. There are SO many of these people now that they outnumber the good people. I honestly wonder what would happen if as a society we stopped worry so much about being politically correct and called it how we saw it?
I don't understand why when people talk about manners it's regarded as being pc. It's manners. Manners are something that wwe should all be using. Using manners make the world a nicer place to live in. You don't just start yelling at someone about their weight. It's just plain rude.
I am morbidly obese. It's nothing i'm proud of but it's a fact and people like the op are the reason i hate leaving the house. People who feel the right to make comment where it's not wanted or needed.
Everyone is lazy about something at some point in their life whatever their size.
So, you'd just let someone hit your dog, and disrespect everyone around them by not properly handling their animal? I would have told the woman off, obese or not. No one was yelling at anyone about their weight, just pointing out that they were behaving in a stereotypical manner.
My point was that maybe if we held everyone more accountable for their choices, they would start to accept that there is a reason that they are how they are, fat, skinny, loud, quiet, whatever. Chances are they need to take a good look in the mirror to figure out ultimately who is to blame, rather than blame everyone else and expect everyone else to do everything for them.
I gained weight because of medications. Is that my fault? YES. I chose to take those medications KNOWING they could cause weight gain. Ultimately, my weight gain is MY fault, and I am totally ok with accepting that fact.
If Sally became obese because she over ate, is it McDonald's fault, or the grocery stores fault? NO. It is HER fault because she made a choice,
I know I sound harsh, but this is MY opinion. You are welcome to disagree with me.0 -

Um, no, they didn't. The judging was not based specifically on weight, but rather on behavior. The weight created a stereotype issue. Before you go attacking someone, read the post carefully please.0 -

Ofcourse i'd not just let someone hit an animal but again even thin people can hurt animals it's not just fat people.
hmmm i guess i misread thisI then tell her that THIS is why fat people are so hated
as having as yelling at her about her weight??
Edit: Also in your op you mention she hit the dog AFTER you started yelling at her, so don't now use that as an excuse for you yelling at her.0 -

>.< That is showing that this person is SUPPORTING a STEREOTYPE.
For example, stereotypically, x people are disliked for y reason.
You see an x person behaving in this y fashion.
This supports the stereotype that makes y people disliked.
(See how I'm not actually plugging anything in, so as not to offend any particular group)0 -
And for the record, I'm not the OP, please stop talking to me like I am.0
-
If I see one more 'these people' statements I am pulling out my KKK hat and throwing the n word around like it's cotton candy at the carnival. The sheer amount of ugliness in this thread makes me want to take a dump.
All you fatties are someones 'these people' or five pounds away from it.0 -
sorry with you talking about the dog i got mixed up.
But whatever nothing justified the op yelling at the woman about her weight. Call her lazy if she is being lazy, call her selfish as from the op it does appear that she was being selfish but there was no reason for her to start yellign that this womans behaviour was why people hated fat people.0 -
But, it's the truth. I am not saying it's right or wrong. Please bear that in mind.
As someone who is overweight, I can totally relate to that frustration. I get SO tired of people just assuming I eat fast food and sit on my rump all day every day. I eat pretty well, I work out 3-4 times a week, and I am trying, Just because there is either FAT, or SKINNY, and nothing in-between doesn't mean it's right.
I can truthfully say that if I were somewhere, and got lumped up with someone behaving like that woman did, I would most likely applaud the OP for stating a fact, even though it might be hurtful. Sometimes the truth hurts. Sometimes that pain is enough to make people stop and take a look at themselves and the life they are choosing to live. Sometimes it doesn't, there really isn't any way to predict it, but I don't think remaining completely silent is the answer either.0 -
*sigh* Regardless of what I posted in my anger, this post is still extremely hurtful to morbidly obese people using this site. The descriptors, the generalizations, the stereotyping. I don't think it should be on the forums because there are probably some sensitive people here who will be really hurt by it.
I don't need a rebuttle, but that is how I see this post, I think it is innapropriate because regardless of how some people here see it, I feel, as I'm sure others on this site do that it is degrading & offensive to other users.0 -
Everything is offensive to someone. Might as well just not have forums if the goal is not to offend anyone.0

If you are going to be prejudice, then come on out and be loud and proud. Don't hide behind words of 'helping' someone by degrading them. Your size does not define your worth as a human being.0 -
I know a lot of people who are obese who are truly amazing people and I love them to pieces!
Then again I also know a lot of people who are obese that just sicken me with their behaviour that they have come to think is acceptable because they are overweight!
I also know a lot of people that are slim and beautiful who also sicken me with their behaviour because they think it;s acceptable because they are beautiful!
It works both ways people.
The people I know that are overweight and horrible people seriously don't do a thing to help themselves.
They claim from the government because "they can't work" because they are overweight.
They complain they are entitled to more money because they CAN'T work.
They have children who they are pummeling with the same food they scoff themselves that they buy as cheap and as processed as anything because they spend the rest of their money on alcohol!
They have got disability badges and use disabled areas because they think that they are entitled to that because they are big when there are so many people in the UK who are genuinely disable because of no fault of their own who can't use the disabled areas because someone else has parked there.
This isn't a stereotype from me this is REAL life that I have witnessed myself.
I've even confronted said people about their problems and have said "why don't you work? You could do something about your weight if you wanted to, you could get a job sitting down if you don't want to move a lot?"
The answer was "Why should I? I'm getting the same if not more money from the government by sitting here than I would be if I worked! If I work they stop paying me money and I don't want that"
It really disgusts me to be honest how some people use the excuse that they are overweight for everything.
But then it's the same for beautiful people too, expect they get a lot more slack for being arrogant horrible people because of being slim and beautiful.0 -
No idea what this is all about but I would like to pass along a message to all the members about Asian drivers, PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW THIS, the consequences are a disaster!!!
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not talking about the ones who are actually trying to learn to drive properly, no no, I don't mean any of you, just all the rest because they perpetuate the stereotype and all that...0 -
Oh wait, I'm sort of Asian too, but it's ok with me because my eyes aren't quite as slanted as the others so I can see better!!!0
-
i personally find your post very upsetting. i have never been morbidly obese but my other half is and he is the kindest person i know he doesn't blame anyone else for the way he is and just hasnt got to the place where he is ready to make a change yet. He is a very sensitive person and uses food to cope with his depression. i see him being judged everyday by people like you and it breaks my heart.
so in future keep your nasty spiteful opinions to yourself!0 -
Ok Ok, so yes, I am supposed to wear my glasses when I drive but I mostly don't because they don't fit my flat head properly and it looks kind of silly.. but still, I can pronounce the words LOLLY POP (or is that one word??? (SP?)) Ask any of my ancestors to try that one... HA!!!0
-
Hey, I just thought of something after reading all the posts, what if, we take these people, (morbidly obese and Asians who refuse to take the bus) and place them in special camps?? It will keep the rest of us normal people safe from having to see disgusting fat people, or being run down by someone who shouldn't be driving. It would be to their own benefit too because then we (who know better) could control what the fat people eat, and make sure the Asians don't drive which will also prevent them from being injured in car accidents. .0
-
It would also be a deterrent to anyone who even thinks about getting fat. "Put that hamburger down or you're going to The Camp"
But... ummm hmmm
Wait ummm... what camp do we put the Morbidly obese Asians in????0 -
Sorry, but I fail to find honestly to be spite. And everyone is perfectly free to have, and share their opinion. Just like you were.
I'm betting this thread will either be locked or deleted within a few hours because it wasn't PC enough.0 -
We should also make them all wear party hats, but that's just for my amusement.0
-
I am really stunned by your hateful attitude toward obese people. Substitute the word obese with 'black' or 'gay' in your post and see how it reads.
You're entitled to feel any way you want about obese people, but why in the world did you choose to post thise here on MFP where many of us are obese?0 -

Wait.... so ranting about ONE person, who happens to be obese, makes the OP hate all obese people? Seriously?
So... because I dislike some skinny person who rubs it in my face, I hate ALL skinny people?0 -
I'M ASIAN AND I SUCK AT MATH!!!!
See, that alone tells you I can drive, don't doubt me, oh no...... don't ever doubt me....0 -
This is what you call a rant about one person? Did you actually read her post?
"I have never met someone morbidly obese that is not what I consider to be a horrible person, whether that be outwardly shown or not."0 -
If you're going to quote, PLEASE use the entire quote.
"After all, you cant have respect for others if you do not have respect for yourself. These people do not. "
This statement is TRUE.
I can look back now, and say that before I decided I was ready to make a change, I had ZERO respect for myself. NONE. If I was willing to put my body through hell just because not doing it was work?
This isn't even worth fighting with ya'll about. All I can really say is that I wish people would stop trying to handle obesity with the kid gloves.
Have a wonderful day.0 -

Your assertion is she's ranting about a single person. The very quote you chose to use - "These people" proves she's not. As I said, she can hate fat people if she wants to, but posting that on MFP was completely inappropriate.
Good luck on your weight loss journey.0
