Needle in a Haystack

You know what I find difficult? Staying disciplined & motivated to eat healthy when people around you aren't doing the same thing. I work with people who snack on chocolates, potato chips, donuts, etc. And its a huge temptation!! Its so hard to walk away. I bring my own snacks to try and avoid the others, but I still end up eating "a couple" of them. I recently lost 30 lbs, & have fluctuated 5 up & down, due to an uneven appetite. I'll go a few days eating really healthy, & find myself the next day craving sweets & fatty stuff, and then I give in to them. I want to get on a healthy eating schedule. They say 30 days makes a habit...so here goes day 1!! Good luck to all of you out there who are striving for the same goal! WE CAN DO THIS!!!

It was the same way at my office where I worked. I found it especially hard when I was drinking my coffee. I always wanted something sweet with it. I took your approach about the 30 days and stopped putting sugar in my coffee and since then I don't crave those sweets. I think sugar is a trigger that makes me crave more. May you should look at whay you are eating and replacing things with and see if there are any triggers for you. I will admit it is easier now that I am no longer working in the office. I started working from home, but now I am leaving that job altogether and going to an active resaurant job instead of a desk job.

I feel the very same way about my work...food EVERYWHERE, and not the healthy kind. For me I just try to aviod it if I can. I however do allow myself to something sweet everyday. I am not trying to cut anything out just eat in moderation or see if there is a healthy subsitute. What I like to do is enter what I think I am going to eat on my food diary and see if to ME it is worth it. I don't recommend for us that have sweet teeth to cut out the sweets compleatly because it is always made me gain my weight back and them some. Just be more cautious about what you put in and you'll be fine. Good Luck :-)
  • Same at my work. Person with a desk near me keeps a bowl of chocolates and people stop by everyday to eat them. It was so hard when I sat right there in the same area and watched people doing this. I admit that I visited that bowl more times than I should! Just couldn't resist.

I switched to a vegan diet and now find the temptation is gone (cravings for the first two weeks, that was the hardest until I broke that sort of chemical addiction to certain foods). People at work have been really supportive (except one person who told me I was "going against evolution"). Now I have no problem resisting. Can't eat the chocolates because they have milk.

I keep bananas at my desk and oranges in the fridge at work. If I get a "sweet" craving, that's what I have now.

So this is what has worked for me in the Me vs. Candy Dish at Work smackdown. Candy Dish no longer winning!
