I'm considering weight loss hypnosis. For $30 it might be a nice tool, especially if it would help me deal with the carb loading thing. Anyone done hypnosis for weight loss? If so, what did it include?

I personally haven't tried it but I do have a friend who has and it's really worked out great for her. She looks amazing and says it really helps her control cravings and she remembers to add lots of protein. The only reason I did not participate is because I have a 12 year old daughter and we are working on our weight loss together. The hypnotist would not work with a minor. I didn't think it would be fair to my daughter to have the same expectations and have 1 of us hypnotized and the other one not.

I tried it YEARS ago. Did it work. Nope. I just fell asleep. No kidding. It's hogwash, IMO.

To call it hogwash is ignorant. Hypnosis has been around for a long time and it really does work within limits. I suggest getting a book from your library on the subject, so that you understand it before you spend the money. It isn't mystical. It isn't like what you see in the cartoons. You can't be hypnotized to do anything against your morals. It is practiced by many physiologists and is a scientific method for putting suggestions in the mind.

As a teenager, I got really into it and started writing my own scripts to hypnotize family members and friends. It was amazing how powerful it was. I could hypnotize one of my brothers to feel no pain in his hand and could stick a needle in his finger without him flinching. I also got other family members to do some funny things, like not being able to bend their arm at the elbow. Hypnosis is so powerful that a good hypnotist can actually stop blood from flowing to a certain part of the body during surgery.

That said, the limitation to hypnosis is that the effect diminishes quickly once you stop. For instance, within an hour, the suggestions might still be strong. Within a few they are getting weaker. Within 24 hours they are probably gone. Accordingly, I wouldn't suggest going to a hypnotist for weight loss, unless you can afford frequent sessions. Instead, I would get a good audio book off of audible (about $2.99 for a 30 minute script that you can listen to daily). The more you practice and the more frequently you do it, the better it will work. You can extend the effective time period by repeating the process and getting better and better at being hypnotized.

Then I would get some good books on writing your own scripts and learn to do self hypnosis. That can be very powerful as you can tailor it to your needs.

I just recently have rediscovered hypnosis. I will let you know how it works, but so far it has been very helpful. Remember, it is science, not magic. It has its limits, but you can work with those.

I've heard of it working, but haven't tried it myself. It also depends on the person and whether or not they can be hypnotized.

I had a friend who went to one and it worked. My mom went to one and quit smoking, but her friend who went with her didn't. I think everyone is different and it depends on your personality. I do know there are some hypnotist who guarantee it works of you can go back as often as you need to.
