Hi there ok here is my problem, hoping someone out here can give me some ideas! I have a 100 gallon fishtank and am doing my first Non-Aggressive tank. I have had fishtanks for about 10 years so I am not a newbie but I have always done semi-aggressive to Aggressive in the past. Now I am attempting to fill this huge tank with hundreds of little friendly fish and such, I lovingly refer to as Wussy Fish!

A family trip to get some new fish resulted in us bring home 2 Fiddler Crabs (both female) I normally would research something I have never had experience with but this was a spur of the moment thing and of course the person we had helping us didn't know squat other than which were male and female. So know I am online and find out they are Semi-Aquatic! Here's a little of what I found out....."The Mini Crab is a semi-aquatic species that requires access to an area above the waterline. A "beach" or "shoreline" made with sandy substrate is ideal." CRAP! Do you know how big 100 gallon tank is!? How the heck am I going to create a way for them to get out of the water? I do have one plant that tips out of the water a little, but I don't think that will be enough. I read maybe bamboo... but if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them! They have to be able to dry out their shells or the shell becomes weak and they die. I am thinking of stacking rocks but that is a really high stack of rocks! :noway:
Thanks for any ideas!

certain stores will sell 'backplates' for tanks that have 'shelves' you can slot on, generally used for turtles, but could be used for crabs, you can also get foam lilly pads that will float, and are probably sturdy enough

The only thing I can think of is get them their separate tank/environment or take them back! Good luck!

What about a "fake" Water lily....I am sure with your experience, this may make you cringe... The only thing I could think of, I usually had salt water.... The other thing about the crabs, they like to climb out... Good Luck with that...
    Maybe take them back,..... Sorry

I might take them back I notice today they like to hide a lot. I hate that! lol Maybe returning them would just be better than trying to build an island in my tank! They are cuties but oh well this is probably not the right home. :ohwell:

 well I do have a few fake plants attached to logs and such left over from my aggressive aqaurium, real plants are a whole new experience and I love them! But I would consider a fake lilypad if it will work. I am going to see the aqautic expert tomorrow at Petco and tell her your ideas and see what she says. Otherwise I'll probably just return them.
    Thanks a lot all!
