I'm going to make some apple butter within the next couple of days... not sure how many calories are in it though so when I checked on the database, a bunch of different numbers, different brands, etc. came up. Then I was going to enter the recipe onto mfp but it asks how many people it serves...the recipe I have makes 9-10 pints, so I'm not sure how many people that would serve lol. Anyone have any ideas??

Figure out how many tablespoons are in a pint (you can Google it), and enter that number in as the serving number.

If you are making it yourself, you can cut back on the sugar or look for a low sugar recipe or use Splenda brown sugar for all or some of it...

Use 1 tablespoon = 1 serving, which is standard for jams, jellies, and other spreads.

If your recipe makes 9 pts, that's 18 cups (2 cups/pint). There are 16 tablespoons per cup, so you have 18*16 tablespoons, or 288 tablespoons/servings per recipe.

Great logic, absolutely correct. Now, before you enter this data, make the recipe and make sure it actually yields 9 pts. Yields are frequently inaccurate both because of errors on the editing side and differences in cooking techniques between the tester/author and the home cook.

for the person who wants to make less apple butter... you can halve or quarter the recipe and also reduce sugar significantly without affecting the final product. Usually apple butter is made in large quantities because it takes so long and uses a lot of fuel to cook so you may as well cook a lot at a time since you use basically the same amount of gas to cook a cup as you use to cook several pints.
