Ridiculous. I don't take it like I "took HIS name" I take it as " I took the FAMILY name"
We have two sons together and I want to feel like we're one unit, under one name. All the same.
This is my PERSONAL PREFERENCE. I'm not saying it's right for everyone.
But i'm definitely not overly emotional or dependant on my husband because I share his name with our children.0 -
I went from a ten letter maiden name to a six letter married name. I did it to prevent carpal tunnel.
I also went from a name that few could pronounce to one that looked easy to pronounce, but people STILL say it wrong. :grumble:0 -
Well, obviously. Everyone knows that.
Honestly, I didn't change my name when I got married but if I get married again and his name is better, I'll take it. At the time I just couldn't be bothered to change all my ID and learn a new signature.
People attach to much meaning to stuff. It's a choice and making a choice for yourself is empowering.0 -
I took my husband's last name to have a totally unpronouncable whole name
Tanee Janusz? A mouthful of awesomeness when telemarketers call!! lol0 -
When I was married I hyphonated my name. My daughter has my maiden name (Dad wasnt in the picture) and when I had my son, he took my ex-husbands name. SO, that way I had both of my childrens last names....0

I took my husband's name because I hated my maiden name. I also took it because our children will have it, and because I didn't wish to associate with my father any longer. It had nothing to do with "doing what was right" or whatever that was the article stated.
I mean.... Pedersen.... to Walton... much better I think...0 -
I didn't change my name when I got married. It's my name!0

I didnt change my last name when I got married but I would do it if I consider it necessary, theres nothing wrong with changing last names0 -

I kept my ex's name because my children have the same last name. Figured it was easier and to me it's just a name, doesn't define who you are or change who you are inside . . .0
