Buying clothes/bras too big

This isn't too big of a deal since I only spent $4 but here goes..

I went to ross and found a bra that looked really comfortable (i have such a hard time finding bras) so I was excited and looked for my size. Well, the day before I measured under my bust and it was a nice 38 in. well, you think I would have grabbed a 38, right? Wrong! I looked at them for a while and grabbed the 42. The 38 and the 40 both looked way too small. I thought, those would never fit ME!. Well I got home and tried it on.... Soooo comfortable in the cup area and about 4 inches too big in the band. I went back and ross doesnr have the smaller ones anymore :(

No biggie, only $4... But still, it would have been awesome to have it in my size.

This kinda thing happen to anyone else?

Yes, all the time. A few weeks ago I had to throw out all my old bras as they were like empty sacks, I bought 3 new ones in one back and one cup size smaller (from a 32GG to a 30G) and they are still hanging off me. I need to go and get properly fitted I think, but no where here does fittings, and I haven't had time to go up to London.

I always try them on before I buy them. Just wear a thin undershirt.

I got officially measured for a bra fitting a couple weeks ago as everything I had was HUGE...found out I'd lost a whole cup size and 2 inches in the band...but when I go shopping I still start to pick up the old size because the new ones look so "small" lol...

No matter what, one cup will either be slightly too small or one cup will be slightly too large.

    Damn asymmetry.

I know I was in 2 different shops today and I actually noticed some nice things as I passed the Plus-size dept. I had a hard time stopping myself from going over and checking them out, even after I realized I no longer wear a plus-size.

I bought new shorts for running/working out the other day and at first I picked up some 3XL and 2XL shorts and ended up fitting into an XL pair and could have probably worn a Large! It was a great feeling, I still have lots to lose, but it was great to get shorts that weren't in the plus size section :-) (and cheaper too). I still find myself going to the plus section first though.

THANK YOU... THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!

I feel a bit crazy sometimes... I bought a bunch of clothes, online, as I am in larger sizes and I really can't buy stuff in a normal store. I have to send them all back. Every single part of the order. I have bought pajamas in a regular store, in the plus size section, but it felt great! So much so that I have bought PJ's in 2 more regular stores since then! Why PJ's?? I think I figured it out... no one can see those. I'm not ready to be in too much of a smaller size in front of the world. The only time people have noticed thus far was one day -- about 7-8 people in one day. Never before, never since. But I stalled. I freaked out and stalled. My clothes are honestly falling off of me... I am in the process at this very moment of washing everything up and plan to take them to the Goodwill/Salvation Army tomorrow or Tuesday. I found some older clothes that I put away because they were too small -- they have been working so far. My bra's... well, I was wearing "new" ones but I have lost enough weight that none of them really fit! I feel like they are hanging on me just because they go over my shoulders.

Biggest struggle for me... how do you know when to buy or what/how much to buy. I'm not sure of my size, I'm not sure how long I will stay at this size and I don't want to keep returning things...

I knew I wasn't alone, but I appreciate you posting this because it's helpful to me!!

Yep. I've learned that I have to try stuff on at the stores because otherwise, I will ALWAYS buy stuff that is too big. I don't know why I do it and I can't honestly explain it, but I will. I get scolded all the time for trying to buy clothes that simply won't fit me. For some reason, I have moments when I have it stuck in my head that I am still heavier.

And even now - at 150lbs - I worry that buying something form fitting or something that makes my figure noticeable will make people say to themselves "WHY IS SHE WEARING THAT?!"
