Hi Everyone,

Every year muslims around the world fast for one month, this year it falls in August.

Typically I cannot eat or drink anything from Sunrise to sunset (4.30am - 8.30pm) during the whole month. My question is will I still be able to lose weight during that month? If so how should I adjust my diet? I really dont wanna mess up what I have achieved so far.

I would say to take it easy on the exercise so you are too exhausted with the extra calorie deficit. It is admirable to have such dedication to your beliefs.

I really wouldn't think that it would be a problem - I have seen posts from a couple of people here who have a fasting lifestyle, whereby they eat all of their calories during a six hour period.

I've posted links to a couple of articles that might help.

No problem, and good luck with it. I have a couple of friends who fast over that month as well, and they say that you almost get used to it by the second week (although I think it's a little easier here in the southern hemisphere what with it heading towards winter and shorter days).

I think the biggest problem with Ramadan is that there is just so much tasty food available at night and a lot of it is not especially good for us...Beware the Iftar buffet especially be careful of south central Asian meals with all their pakoras and samosas YUM! ... When you go visiting in the evenings, have a serving of nuts instead of the sweets, and when guests come to your home serve nuts and fruit instead of having too many sweets in the house. anyway, as long as you continue to eat the same amount of calories and lay off the pakoras, it really does not matter what time of day you eat.

I take it easy i ramadan..will I do not exerice at all actually...fasting from 3am to 9pm, u can not waste energy on exercise, I do take the kids to the park and amusment parks so I do tend to walk plenty....and we do have that one week break from fasting, the only time I am ever glad to get my period!

I do not worry about what I eat in Ramadan, you only have 3 hrs or so to eat, and it is actually hard to eat too much once you start. Before breaking fast i think I am going to eat everything on the table, but seriously after eating the salad, soup and few items off my table I am full! I go to bed no later than 11-12, so that gives me about 3hrs to eat other foods, but I do like having dessert afterward..so if I was to count my calories there is no way I would go to much more than 1500cal.

I always lose 3-5lb in ramadan...

good luck, I can not wait until it comes in a more reasonable, shorter days, colder month...

I'll be fasting in Ramadan too and have been wondering lately how many other Muslims are on here. (That's how I found the post....searching "Muslim" "Islam" and "Ramadan" ! :)
