P90x questions...

I am getting ready to start in a week but I have a couple of questions:
I know Ab Ripper X is supposed to be done in conjunction with other workouts throughout the program but do y'all think I'll still get good results if I do Ab Ripper X on the days I'm supposed to but in the morning, and do the other workout for the day in the afternoon. Being a working mom, I typically exercise in the afternoon while my son naps but sometimes his nap is short and I'm afraid some days I might not have time to do Ab Ripper X on top of another workout.

Also, ladies doing P90x, what size weights do y'all use?

As long as you do it, I don't really think it matters if you do AbRipper X immediately after the workout, or earlier/later in the day.

    I have a range of weights, 3lb, 5lb, 8lb, 10lb and 15lb. I started using the 5's and 8's, now use the 8's, 10's and sometimes 15's.

    good luck!!

I just finished P90X on Saturday. I don't think it would be a problem to break it up. I'm sure that's why there is a separate DVD. (In the workout series, when you're supposed to do Ab-Ripper X it comes on right after the regular workout, so you actually have about 4 copies of it). I used a variety of weights, gradually increasing them as I got stronger. Depending on the exercise, I used 8-30 lb weights.

I think you will be fine. I actually prefer the Ab Ripper 100 and 200 from Tony Horton vs the Ab Ripper X. With these they are a little shorter and I get a better burn.

I don't think it will matter when you do it. You're working a different part of your body with this. I like the P90x program, but I changed it up a bit. The one thing I would recommend is making it into some thing you can do long term, rather than just 90 days.

I've done that and I got excellent results.

I think it is fine to separate the workouts, but not sure if it is recommended to just start doing abs when you're not warmed up, but you can just take a few extra minutes to do that if that is the case.

I started out using 3, 5, 8, & 10lb weights. By the time I finished I needed to get 12lb weights (mostly for biceps).

    Best wishes with the program!

I plan my workouts around my 11 month old's naps and typically break them up. I've seen great results and don't think it's a problem as long as you do it. I use 8lb weights and resistance bands for my pull ups. I'm not quite strong enough to use our pull up bar but find the resistance bands work really well for my back. Best wishes!

You should still be able to get good results if you can't get in Ab Ripper three days a week. Just do you best to fit it in. I use15-25 weights for shoulders and arms. Bodyweight for chest and several resistance bands for back exercises.

Thank you for all of the great advice everyone, I think I will try splitting them up and doing ab ripper in the mornings and the other workouts in the evenings. I have 5, 10 and 15 lb dumbells, which is probably fine bc I have a pretty weak upper body (really strong legs though  )...I think I'll just feel it out with those and if I need to go heavier I'll get more.

I've done both the same time and am/pm to get abripper x in - both seem to work just fine.

I use 15,20,25 lbs dumbells, always to exhaustion, which is about 15-20 reps depending on what I'm doing. If I do more than 20 I up the weight.
