Vacation - do I log my walking calories?

Hey everyone! I leave for Universal in Florida in a week, and the only thing I haven't figured out is the exercise portion. I'm planning on taking a DVD to do at night, and swimming some, but I want to get everyone's opinion on all the walking I'll be doing during the day. I'm not much of a ride person, so I won't be doing those, but I'm anticipating a LOT of walking. Do I wear my HRM all day and log the calories burned while I'm walking? Do I just carefully monitor my diet (which I'm planning on doing) and forget the working out? For those of you who have vacation in a theme park like this, what did you do? Please help!

 I would say it depends on what activity level you have set on MFP. Mine is set to sedentary as I have a desk job and I would probably log it if I did a lot of walking, but if you have it set already at a higher activity level maybe you shouldn't. Hope that makes sense, and enjoy yourself!

Before I found this site I went to Disney world for 4 days...I did weight myself before and after. We rode a lot but there was still ALOT of walking. We ate OK (didnt really eat fast foods ) but I wouldnt say i was on a diet....I even ate treats at each park like an icecream or a frozen banana and pretty much ate whatever i wanted for breakfast lunch and dinner. I got back to town I had not gained any weight. Which is good so I pretty much evened out. If you diet and go to the parks you should be ok! I wouldnt know how to log it on but if you have the calorie counter i say use it! :)

We went to six flags a week ago and I logged the walking as 2mph, and posted lower for the calories burned. We were there all day and we lapped that park 3-4 times! I only put 2 hours of walking though, because honeslty I did not bring a pedometer or anything to help me calculate length. Plus we did wait in some lines (not very long, not many people were there).
Watch out for the food at those theme parks though!!! Not a lot of healthy choices!
    Have fun!!!

I log walking calories on vacation... like a previous poster, I have a desk job and spend a good portion of my day sitting, so doing a lot of walking is exercise for me. Definitely keep the good splurging in check, but don't let it ruin your vacation. I think it's a great idea to wear your HRM all day to know exactly how much you burned.

But most of all.. HAVE FUN!!

when i was back in universal studio's i remember a LOT of walking.. if you watch what you eat in the same way as usual it'll be good, but do log the walking.. maybe just log it as 2.5mph hour walking for the time you do it each day.

HRM works, but keep in mind that HRM's are less accurate at low haert rates.

My mom just went with my sister & fam to Disneyland. Mom and sister both wore pedometers and logged all the walking they did. I would def. log it! It's exercise for sure, not just daily activity. Have fun!! :)

We ate OK but I really did not watch what I ate. After the parks we did not do much except go to the jacussi so really no swimming lol... I'm not worried about the diet at all, which is weird, because before it'd scare the *(#& out of me! I know we're taking our own snacks/breakfast foods, and we will probably only eat out a few times. My activity level is set on sedentary, because I have a desk job. Just kind of curious to see what other people have done. It's my goal to LOSE weight on vacation this year!

Does your hotel have a gym? I just got back from a trip, and everyday I would get up before the family, go to the gym and sweat for an hour get coffee, then back to the room before breakfast. I had so much energy, and that hour was nice me time before the crazy day started. Personally, I would just pick a standard number of cals, say maybe 300 and log that everyday for the walking. You could use the hrm, but I would be unclear on how much the walking exceeds your normal activity. You are on vacation, so don't worry about being accurate. Have fun and enjoy yourself! Don't sweat the numbers:)
