Brand new to the weight loss idea

HI, I am truly brand new to any idea of weight loss. I have never been on an official diet plan or really thought about loosing weight. That all changed when I turned 41. I closed my roofing company and used my education to get a nice computer related job.

Upside, I don't worry about falling off roofs anymore. Down side: I now have high colesterol (first time ever), gained 40 pounds, have a hard time finding time to work out, and work day and night at times when required to.

So far I have seen a dietitian last friday, ,made a plan, and started to use this site. Please wish me luck

Losing 30 pounds in 30 days is extremely unhealthy. Any more weight loss than a pound or two a week is bad for you. The first week you start any weight loss, you're likely to lose up to 5 pounds the first week, but even then, that would only be maybe 10-12 pounds in 30 days.

    Donald,

Welcome to MFP(As it's lovingly called by fellow members),

Well your making the first step, ¬your on here with the intent to lose weight. While this site is great and the people are great, this site can only do so much, it’s up to you to do it.

You can do it, it’s not easy but the things that are worth it aren’t easy. But, they’re well worth it in the end!

I’d recommend start to read or research whatever you want to call it. You don’t have to be an expert on the matter, but you will get to know a lot about food and nutrition and exercise.

Exercising can be as simple as walking, which is always a good one.

    A link about dieting

    Another link about nutrition

    I use About.com a lot for research.

You can do it, just stay with it. Even when you get frustrated.

Good luck in reaching your goals!
