hi, i used to enjoy runnung before my pregnancy. i was on bedrest for about 18 weeks at the end of my pregnancy which ended in a c section. needless to say i was out of shape. i have tried several times to run but my knees hurt so bad. i havent tried running since last summer but i am going to try again this afternoon. is this normal after pregnancy? is there anything i can do about it?

I would go back to basics. Start by walking on the flat, moving onto hills (if possible) then to start stretching yourself. Much lower impact and will build up muscles before running again. Had to do similar after my keyhole sugery on knee

You might look at your shoes. It could be that you're not getting the right support for how your feet contact the ground (you could be overpronating or underpronating). If you have a running speciality store in your town I would start there.

Make sure you get fitted for running shoes - your gait may have changed after your pregnancy. and your shoes are no longer the correct ones for you. Bad or incorrect shoes are the cause of a large number of injuries related to running. Go to a running store and have an expert watch you run and recommend the best type of shoe.
  • i never thought about shoes! thanks!

Best of luck getting back .... I went back jogging in April & did experience knee pain - I found that putting an Ice Pack on my knees helped to reduce the pain the next day but it did eventually go away
