The slower the weight loss, the less likely you are to have the excess skin.

Some people just have looser and less elastic skin than others, this is due to age, genetics, and abuse of the skin. I know that there is surgery to fix this, and it's actually relatively cheap compared to other surgeries, as it is very low risk.

I have heard of misc products that can help to tone your skin as well, but I don't really have any first hand knowledge of them.

**EDIT** Spell check is my friend. I should try using it. Fail.

drink a ton of water to help with elasticity.

I'm down 77 lbs so far, but no skin sag (yet). Please note, this could change by the time I lose the full 240 that I'm working on. I'm working on a theory to inhibit the skin sag factor... more water (hydration leads to skin elasticity) and more strength training. On gym days I average 1.5 gals per day... non gym days about 1 gal. And I hit the gym 5-6 days a week.
  • Unfortunately loose skin is going to be an issue. BUT would you rather have loose skin or be overweight?? I think age, length of time being overweight and how fast the weight is lost are factors to consider. I've read that strength training really helps with loose skin but doesn't completely solve the problem. I have loose skin everywhere!! But I'd rather have the skin than the fat there! :) I've gotten used to the loose skin but I have contemplated after reaching my goal weight (AT LEAST two years after) if I'm still "baggy" and it bothers me I'll save up for surgery. You can have it removed but it's costly and unfortunately it might be an option you'd have to consider if it really bothers you so much. BUT just wait and see if your skin bounces back.

Pace your loss...not too quickly. Your skin needs time to "bounce back". Toning exercises to tighten. Lots of water and moisturizers.
  • in the end up up to genes i truly believe that i lost my crazy fast i did not take my time i was on a mission so those who claim slow lies just keep going your fat is still shifting and it will for the next two or three years or so but i winded up with very little skin so

    DITTO - DITTO - DITTO!!!!!!!!!!
I will have lots of skin hanging by the time I'm done and I'm loosing slowly - but I'm 52 and not as elastic.
We all have to wait and see how our largest organ will respond as the toning continues even after we hit goal.
IF I feel like I need/want it my reward will be a tummy tuck - at least two years after I hit goal weight!

I would have to agree with everyone else. Water and slower weight loss with exercise helps. I have been on this weight loss rollercoaster for a long time now. When I was 22 after having my first child I hit WW hard and lost 45pounds with no exercise just eating right. Then started to worry that I was going to have saggy skin so started to go to the gym along with proper diet. In total I lost 98 pounds and wasnt saggy. Now I am right back where I started 11 years ago and have all 98+ to loose again. I am worried about the saggy skin again but hope that with proper diet and exercise it will be all good! If not then I for sure would rather have the goofy skin then all the fat under it! and I will have to save up to have it removed and Hopefully never go back through all this AGAIN!!! Good luck to you!
