To South Beach or Not to South Beach

Hi Guys!

I have been eating a lot better, exercising and have made this a life style change. I have tried to be very realistic and not "diet" but make a complete change in my life. The thing is -- I have a vacation coming up in 2 weeks and I was hoping to spend the next two weeks doing whatever will benefit my weight loss the most.

I've never been very good about sticking with the south beach (low carb) diet because it's not easy, but I could surely do it for 2 weeks. I'm wondering what you guys think/feel about SB. If not South beach, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks All! I appreciate any help/guidance.

I do a version of South Beach. Very very low carbs, good fats, etc. Depends on where you are vacationing I guess. We just got back from Key West and I love seafood, so I actually dropped a couple of pounds on vacation! Hold the potato, give me the lobster!!!! Between that kind of eating and the extra walking, I was pretty happy. But if you're going camping, e.g. beer, burgers, and brats.....much different story. Much harder to stay low carb.

Good luck and enjoy!!! Most important....ENJOY!!!!

I generally try to eat more protein and less carbs, just because it seems to curb my snacking and helps me manage my weight better. I did try South Beach for a long time and, while I did see results pretty fast, it was very hard for me to keep up. This was especially true when I was going out to eat or on vacation. I just found that trying to eat virtually carb free all the time became a hassle and I felt less and less committed to it. For me, its easier now that I have my allotment of calories and I just favor protein rich foods rather than carb ones. Now, I feel like I am not as stressed about it and I have a wider range of choices. Hope this helps!

Hey there. I think the thing with SB is not to TOTALLY cut out carbs, but its to replace bad carbs with good carbs. I know for my body if I eat too much good carbs my weight loss will plateau and I have to go back to cutting carbs for about a week before I get back into usual routine. Anything in excess can be harmful or deture goals.
