Is this a workout??

I normally don't consider doing house work or yard work as part of my exercise. I figure that is part of the 1200 I get every day. It's just part of life.
But today I helped a friend pull up ALL her flooring: carpet and pad, hard wood (that was glued to the floor) subfloor, base boards. I did all of this for about 5 hours. I was sweating pretty good most of the time. Your using alot of upper body, back, plus squatting and lifting. I had to have burned some major calories doing all this work. I can already tell my arms and back will be sore tomorrow.
So my question is. Should I add this as a workout? If so how and under what?
Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

It's definitely a workout. I'd venture to guess that you were probably burning somewhere around 6-7 cal/min while you were doing it. I'd recommend logging that for maybe 60% of the time you actually spent doing it to account for the difference between that elevated exercise rate and your standard metabolic rate. Best guess.

I would count it as a workout. I count mowing my lawn as exercise since it's an option on here under cardio. That's my Sunday workout instead of going to the gym.

If it's something way above what you normally do or count in your level of activity, I would feel ok with counting it. I have a cleaning job I do for three hours every two weeks and I count two hours of cleaning as I work hard scrubbing floors, etc... And I only count two hours so I don't over calculate.

i pretty much did the same thing on saturday, and i logged it in as 'carpentry, general'.

sometimes i do yard work in lieu of going to the gym, and that's listed as 'gardening, general'

    hope this helps!

Try this website to find the calories burned... it is a great tool for the extra things that aren't in MFP

I'm with chazz. I don't log housework useless it is something out of the ordinary. That would definately qualify. I'm not sure how many calories you should give yourself but do count it.

Thanks guys. I put it under carpentry general (as someone suggested :) I logged it for 3 hours just to be on the safe side. And got almost 700 calories. Woohoo!
    Thanks again!!
