Later this summer, we are planning a week at the beach. Since I will have plenty of time on my hands, I plan to run on the beach each morning. Sunscreen is a no-brainer. What else do I need to know? Shoes v. barefoot? Wet v. dry sand?

I would suggest the damp sand, closer to the water line. It is a little more sturdy, and you wont sink in as much as in the really wet sand, lol.
I wore my shoes when I did it, because I was just a beginning runner, and they help my stride.

I run about two times a week on the sand in Sunny Isles Beach. Barefoot running will kill your feet. Definitely wear good running shoes and comfortable socks. A hat can't hurt either. Also, I take a hand towel which I carry when I run to dry the sweat from my face/eyes because it's so damn muggy here in South Florida. Good luck!

I ran on the beach one night. I'd definitely suggest doing it with some sunlight because it's hard to see anything. Keep near the hard packed sand and do the softer sand in intervals. If you have good ankle support you can do it barefoot, but I wore my shoes.
