As in foods. Like soda? cheese? white bread?
And other parts on the nutrition facts label. Is it best to cut out fats or carbs? What role do they play in body fuel and weight loss?

I'm trying to cut back on sugar a little bit. It turns out I have way too much sugar. But other than that.. idk. Good question though0

I started with cutting out ALL high fructose corn syrup.
Then I cut out all soda, after drinking a natural soda for awhile.
Now I just keep an eye on how many carbs, fats, etc I consume in a day.
Avoid the bad fats, nom the good ones :-)0 -
soda, WHITE bread, and sodium! i dont eat meat so i dont get a lot of sodium..
instead of white pasta try whole wheat pasta. its a lot better for you0 -
the most important thing I have found to cut back on is sodium. Until I really started watching my sodium levels, I couldn't lose anything hardly. It is hard to believe how much sodium is in what we call "low calorie, low fat" foods like canned soups, frozen dinners, etc....they may be low in fat/calories but loaded with salt .....now if I have to choose between higher calories/fat or lower sodium - I choose the lower sodium option....
The things to aim high on or go over each day is protein and fiber - the more you eat with higher fiber and protein, the fuller you feel and the more energy you have...0 -

I've cut out anything that is processed(anything that comes in a box or is in the middle aisles of the groery store). I only shop the perimeter of the grocery store. I don't eat bread or pastas because I'm gluten intolerant, so that helps me with the weight loss.0

i did a whole week of NO bread/rice/noodles (carbs) and NO fruits/juices included. its been great! its the type of diet youre ONLY supposed to do for two weeks. and every 4 days you DO eat carbs at every meal. but i have one more week to go and i already lost 4 pounds! i want to loose about 15 total. so im really happy!0

I cut back on sodium and sugar. My sodium was 5 times more than it should of been and I had no clue it was hurting me.0

You're trying to get a balanced diet. As you look at what you eat on MFP, you'll see what food choices are going to blow you out of the water. There really should be no "shame" foods - just look at what you eat, and learn what's healthy and go for that.
In general, you'll see that we get more than enough sodium and fat just eating normal food. If you eat a very limited vegan diet (close to macrobiotic), you might actually need fat.
I just look at the balance. I love avocados (rich fat food) and I love fish, especially salmon. And I just look at the balance on MFP and try to say below all the numbers. The only thing I tend to go over on is protein, but I'm not excessively over, so I'm gradually trying to increase the carbs and lower the proteins. I'm just not obsessing over it.
I will say that the first few weeks shocked me with how much sodium I was eating, and that helped me make a rapid change from processed foods (canned soups and deli meats), but I'm not saying I'll *never* eat them. Just that I was overdoing it for my diet.0
