Okay so my last period was March 26th and that is also the day I started dieting. I have completely cut out all crappy food (soda, chips, candy, fast food, you name it) and I eat as clean as possible. I'm worried that I havn't started in 7 1/2 weeks though. I have taken two pregnancy tests and both have came back negative. Is it because my sudden change in diet that's is causeing me to be late? I mean don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, it's been kinda nice but should I be concerned? Has this happened to anyone else? Normally I'm pretty on track and never more than 1 week late.

It has not happend to me, but I have heard of this happening. Honestly I would just call your Dr. and see what they say Better to be safe that sorry, and a phone call wont hurt0

Any time I have ever dieted or lost weight, TOM goes all crazy. I skip entire months sometimes! That has happened to me twice since I've actually been steadily losing weight with MFP. If you're really concerned, talk to your doctor, but your body is producing hormones for a smaller body than it was before. It's bound to screw some stuff up along the way0

It could depend on a great factor of things. I would also talk to your doctor just to check things out.0

I agree with Caroline, it has never happened to me, but if it's rare for your period to be this late, then I would consult a dr.0

It's incredibly possible. Many intense dieters and athletes skip their T.O.M. on a regular basis. As said above, though, I'd have a professional clarify it first. I'm no doctor and this is just an assumption.0

It has happened to me... mine has always been kind wacky but since dieting ...well.... never know when its coming.... and ppl ask are you preganant I say welp gotta have a man for that...LOL anyway It could be diet but Id see your doctor to make sure everything is ok0

What kind of preg test are you using? Unless you use and early response one, it can take a while to show up. Believe it or not, the Dollar Tree ones are very sensitive!0

Actually they have been from Dollar Tree. I have thought about buying an expensive one, maybe I'll do that tomorrow. I just keep thinking eventually I will start but I'm going on almost 4 weeks late!0

Sorry so long but I do have some things you may want to research
I have had this happen before with dieting and increase in exercise. There are many possibilities and factors.
Think of it this way. Changes in our external (exercise increase) and internal (diet changes) environment can EASILY shift our hormonal balance. These new changes are considered a stress onto our equilibrium. Our periods can change due to stress from work/home environment, a cold/illness, lack of sunlight and depression etc. We are very strong to menstruate every month and bear life, yet our internal hormones and glands are a delicate "ecosystem " of its own. Even though you may not "feel stressed" the body interprets stimulus in many ways. A diet change & new exercise is a new stress.
You have shared little of what your food journal (specifics) so Im guessing. More info would be needed. Feel free to friend me if you are interested. If not here are some things to think about and "google"
1) If you are eating mostly lean meats & veggies and little carbs this does a few things. The more meats in your diet easily increase the acid levels in your body, basically shifting and decreasing your PH ( yes like a fish tank). Be have a balanced ph. This can cause bodily changes to glands that send out the chemicals (hormones) to "balance" this out.
2) Increased protein and decrease carbs ( aka sugars) and burning fat will cause a slight rise in testosterone. Which is ok for a while. But you can get sick if you have an underlying thyroid issue that you did not know about. Estrogen converts to testerone by a steroid called "estradiol"...when you burn fat the balance is effected. With out busting out more science think of this. Most women athletes, olympic/hard trainers do not have periods due to these factors. The body figures out, hey theres alot of work and stress, shift hormones, theres no way at this time she can be a "baby house" ) lol
3)Blood sugar balance doesnt mean you are diabetic. It means that your insulin levels may be effected. The release of insulin, "lassos" sugars in all forms and shoves it into cells normally. If you have drastically decreased your sugar/carb intake this messes with insulin balance. It will over or under produce. What does this have to do with female hormones?? Actually a great deal of things. I do not scientifically have the time or space to write and explain but it does. If you wake up at night between the hours of 2-4 am..you may have a blood sugar crash. This means you need to nibble on something of carb/protein like beans , or a bit of cottage cheese and fruit or yogart. The problem is us "ladies" try to follow that "dont eat after 7pm rule". Thats for people who are more seditary. Thats fine to try to not eat large consumption etc, but if weve drastically increased exercise & decreased our nutrients..we crash out late at night. Remember, small meals 5 or so through out the day balances our blood sugar.
4) Toxins are held in our fat. When toxins are released, they are dumped off into our lymph (which is our "filters", it dumps into to our urine and we flush it out). For example some people feel this after deep tissue massage. We store toxins, when we release we feel different. Sometimes our body cannot keep up. Thats why water in take is so important. You may feel letharic and tired even due to toxin release. So this can shift hormal balance slightly
All signals from the thalamus, hypothalamus of our brain tells organs and glands what to do.. and then these guys release hormones. So its all connected. One system ( blood, lymph, hormones ) effects other, our body is not separtate bulidings working, its a machine! All pieces workin together
Im sure this will give you some stuff to research. For more definitive answers, knowing your journal of what you eat.
Also make sure you are getting vitamin D utilization from the sunlight (20 mins per day). And that you are eating northern waters fish (tuna/salmon) if not take an Omega supplement. These things from my research seem to help with our female balance.
You may want to go to your MD or Chiropractor just to check vitals, just to rule out any pathology, also let them do another pregnancy test just in case. If I were to guess, what I wrote above is more possible.
Hope this helps, good luck0 -
Four weeks is a very significant time to be late. I would get an appt with your doctor asap. IF you are pregnant you should be on prenatal vitamins as they are very important to the health of the fetus and you want to get on them as soon as you can. Of course, there are many other reasons you could be late including all of the possibilities mentioned before me.
However, there is only one way to find out the true cause and that is to see you doctor. Best of luck sweetie!0 -
i went 4 months without one (not pregnant... no chance of that at all)... i had a vitamin D insufficiency and thyroid issues. i also was stress eating and gained a ton of weight so... i dunno. talk to a doctor.0

I wouldn't waste the money on an expensive one. I've had 4 pregnancies and Dollar Tree always picked it up before the expensive ones! If you're 4 days late and the test aren't picking it up, I highly doubt you're pregnant. Probably just your body adjusting.0

Thank you for all of your responses! I will be calling the doctor tomorrow. I am currently taking a prenatel vitimin because me and my hubby are actually trying to get pregnant. Thanks again :flowerforyou:0

you actually MAY be pregnant! if so, congrats. (especially since you have been trying!). it's also possible that yes, it's a little out of whack due to weight loss. how tall are you? if you have lost a substantial amount of weight in a short time, and didn't really need to (were actually healthy weight/fat percentage to begin with), your period could stop/delay. mine disappeared years ago when i was really intensely dieting/exercising. it came back after i gained a little weight.
good luck!0 -

Well, I hope you are then! The Dr can order a blood test that would pick up any trace of HCG. Good luck!0 -
GoddessHips had a great explanation (thanks!).
It happened to me when I was in boot camp; combo of stress and getting down to 131 at 5'8.5" very quickly. My first pregnancy was unplanned because I figured since I hadn't had a period in 6 months, why bother with protection. But by that time I was settled in at my new unit, way less stressed and a little more padded at 142.0
