Fund Raising - A Long Shot

Hi everyone, I know this is a long shot and I'll apologise in advance if this offends anyone.

18 months ago my step sister, aged 53, was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. It was a bombshell and after many complications, including having to have toes amputated, she is now being cared for by MacMillan Cancer Support.

In the past, and by past I mean 10's of years, Ive led a very sedentary (my speak for LAZY) life. Im a truck driver and sepnd most of the day, and historically most oevenings, sat on my back side, with finger up my nose, watching any rubbish i could fiind on the tv. Weekends were spent with my long suffering wife, lazing on the settee, watching football (soccer) on the tv, irrespective of who was playing.

Last christmas, my daughter and her boyfriend bought me a slow cooker, crock pot, for my truck. This cooker has changed my life, it set me off on the road to lifestyle change, weight loss and getting fit.

In the past i would break out in a sweat running a bath, let alone running down the road!! At first i started to walk a couple of miles of an evening, then i gradually broke into a jog. When I park up now I run 4 - 5 miles and am glad to announce, I have registered for the Great South Run in October of this year. I am running to raise money for the aforementioned MacMillan Cancer Support. Its 10 miles, which was a bit of a shocker, as I had thought it was 10k, as if i thought 10k would be a breeze!!!

I have started a fundraising page, www.justgiving.com/JEFFREY-CLARK and would like to ask that if you have ever been touched by cancer, either through a family member or a friend, please can you donate, even a small amount. Fund raising is my motivation. There is absolutely nothing i can do for my step sister but i can sure endure a little pain for the next few months in the knowledge that MacMillan will be able to help others like her once she has gone.

My god, i didnt think writing this post would make me so emotional but it has, as i write it my eyes are filling up with tears. I have never really done anything for anybody else in my life, i have always done for me. Well this is a big shift and hopefully with all your help I will be able to make a small difference.

Thank you for reading, and thank you if you decide to help. Oh, and yes, im sorry if this post is a bit 'off piste' and inappropriate for MFP.

Jeff
