I'm going away with my 9 year old daughter for aging weekend at a water park with her girl scout troops. I've done really well qnd am terrified about what to eat this weekend and how to track it. I'm going to bring some snacks but it's basically amusement park food and everyone will be eating together so not like I have options. Do you have some advice??

honestly. just eat minamally. if you have to drink soda, go for diet. i would choose a hot dog over a cheese burger. but im honestly not sure if the calories are much different. if youre at an amusement park, you will probably be doing a ton of walking, so be sure to log it and you might be surprized by how many calories you burned. dont snack on greasy junk food like nachos and funnel cakes. They might even have a salad or something.

Swim as much as you can?
  • Whenever I'm away there are a couple of things I do to make sure I don't eat empty calories and keep a relatively good track of what I'm eating:

    1. Cut plate/portions in half (Then no matter what, you're still cutting the calories in half!)
    2. Order something generic - and if it's marinated in a sauce or has a dressing simply ask for the sauce to be left off
    3. If there's a dessert menu and the social expectation is that everyone has dessert, go for fruit salad if they have it. If not, always choose sorbet over ice cream (lower cal/fat) and eton mess is a relatively low calorie dessert in comparrison to most.
    4. Pick out the healthy parts of a dish and eat all those, and just a little bit of the less healthy part :)

Take easy, healthy snacks like fruit, veg (snap peas are handy) and rice cakes. When ordering, choose the lesser of the evils. If you have to order a burger or a hotdog, don't go overboard and get fries. And stick with water to drink! Pop has so much sugar!!!

This is your life. You can't be perfect every day, and you deserve to enjoy your weekend away with your daughter. If you indulge a little this weekend, fit in an extra half hour of exercise next week and eat super healthy. Don't feel guilty for taking one weekend away!
