I am going on vacation to my friends in Florida for roughly a week. I really would like to continue to eat healthy and somehow squeeze in exercising or something. I would like to put my weight loss on pause and not gain weight. What do you guys do when on vacation. I am thinking it might be easier since I will be staying with friends rather then eating out every single meal. Help! What has worked for you, I appreciate any help.

for me the key is planning! Bring an empty refillable water bottle with you, and keep it with you wherever you go. I also make sure I pack things like my granola bars and hit up the store there to buy fruits and veggies. Allow yourself some treats. Walk as much as possible and if possible hit up the gym ;)

Try to make the best food choices you can, and avoid snacking, high cal alcoholic drinks, etc... and squeeze in any exercise you can whenever you can - even if it's sets of squats, lunges, pushups, in your room, go for a walk when you can, etc... It is possible to travel and maintain your weight (I travel a lot for work) but you have to go into it with the mindset that you're going to be as disciplined as possible, and not overindulge because you're 'on vacation' (you don't have to starve or suffer, though - just don't overdo junk, watch portion size, and eat sensibly).

    Good luck and have fun!

Portions! You don't have to eat everything on your plate, or if your friends are cooking just ask for a small serve and tell them you'll go back to seconds if you want more. Try to stay away from the dips and snacks, or just have one or two. Alternate plain water or soda water with alcoholic drinks.
Basically, eat everything but not too much of it. And make sure you enjoy the holiday, you don't want to be miserable because you are "dieting".

Me too! 18 hour road trip and 3 days with the family that loves food and alcohol! Very interested in suggestions. I'm not interested in losing weight, per say, but I definitely do not want to see a gain!

How often do you go to Florida for vacation? If vacations are something you do regularly, then I'd take my disipline along.

No one wants to hear about it when you're on vacation, though, so don't make a big deal about it.

If vacations are a once a year or twice a year thing, I'd just go and have a great time and get back on the program when I got home.

So much good food there, and activity. You'll be fine. Enjoy. I am always so active on vacation, I can eat what I want and not gain.

I'm vegetarian and severely allergic to seafood. I have always looked up places to eat before going on vacation. This was especially helpful in Europe where I discover rocket=arugula & ceps=mushroom. If it's somewhere in the US, I find a market once I get to my destination and stock up on things I can eat and most importantly individual sized bottles of water. Having an apple and a bottle of water in my bag has saved me from going hungry many a day.

Thanks everyone for some great ideas. I already looked up gyms, my gym franchise is there and I can visit. So I will figure out how and when I will go. I am going to do the moderation thing and stock up on the healthy snacks I like. Thanks again.
