Do you make your food diary available to the public?

Mine is public. I've had a few comments and suggestions. I like public diaries beacuse sometimes you find some great ideas for new foods. Sometimes you get so bored with what you eat and it's great to see what others have.0

I don't make mine public...but I didn't come to MFP as a newbie. I already know what works for me and don't need someone to tweak my menu. I eat a relatively high fat diet (with great blood work) and I don't need unsolicited advice from someone who's just lost 6 lbs and thinks they know everything. Its never happened to me, but I have seen it happen to other people, and it ain't pretty.
And I know some people like the accountability, but for me, its the complete opposite. When I did have my diary public, I would find myself LYING MY *kitten* OFF. What if Sheila in so-and-so group, who I know silently disapproves of my diet, saw that I ate bacon last Saturday? Better leave that off...
Now that its private, I will log, with absolute honesty that I just ate 800 calories worth of macademia nuts...and that maybe I should stop buying them if I can't eat just the 1/4 cup serving I'm suppose to...0 -
Mine is public. I have had some comments and it does not bother me. It is me that I need to be accountable to. If i messed up, I am the first to acknowledge it. I also gather meal ides from my friends that have open diaries.0

mines is not viewable i eat very clean no sweets or junk. most people could never live my way i only eat seafood. again most people can not eat that way and i dont need questions on why i dont eat sweets or bread or whatever things the world thinks we deserve because of whatever.i get it enough in really life people think im orthorexia as it is. but my results show that im on point. my theory the mirror is a better friend to answer to then anybody else in the world.0

Mine is public to my friends only and that's because if I generally want any advice, I want it more so from people who have followed along my journey as well....and when I ask for it!0
-
definitely! People might find an idea in mine they hadn't thought of! Or just wanna see how I eat to get where I am!0
-
Mine's public, ever since like my 3rd day here. My friends and I periodically comment on each others'. Today is a somewhat odd day... I have a ~40-44 mile round trip bike ride today, so I'm sort of eating everything in sight.0

Mine is either public, or friends only.
In any case, I don't really have anything to hide. I also have at least one day a week where I don't track, sometimes more depending on the activities of the day. (For example, I DEFINITELY don't count when I go hike 14ers... because I burn at least a couple thousand calories if not more, and dang it, I'm gonna eat pizza after!)
I know I don't make a ton of healthy choices right now, so sometimes that is embarrassing. Right now it is HUGE HUGE HUGE that I'm even tracking most of the time. Once it's been another few weeks I'll start making small changes in what I'm eating.
I keep mine public because I like to see what my friends are eating... so I assume they like to see what I eat!0 -
Mine is public. I rarely get comments on what I'm eating, but if someone wants to take the time to do that GREAT! Haha. I don't care if people see what I've eaten. The good, the not so good and the uh oh's. Doesn't matter to me. I like looking at other diaries for meal or snack ideas though. Very helpful.0

yep. it makes me accountable to not only myself but to everyone else too. makes me feel like i can lie to myself (which i've done for years) but lying to others makes me feel worse and suddenly realize its not right. keeps me honest.0

Mine is public. I'm not perfect, but hey, who is? I welcome the feedback i get.
I am actually thinking to give the link to my food diary to my bootcamp instructor when that class starts next month... He was ribbing me at a recent 5k for eating a piece of pizza and i was like "Its ONE slice of pizza. I am fine with it.... I have more than enough room in my diet for it. Trust me, you won't be tweaking my diet too much as i am already pretty dialed down..."
That said, i know i will have different food needs once i'm doing bootcamp daily than i do at the moment....0 -
I have mine public and it makes people hungry.
I have it public to show that you can still eat really delicious foods you enjoy and still lose weight. Plus, I've gotten a lot of great ideas from seeing my friends' diaries, so I thought I might be able to return the favor.0 -

If someone hassled me for eating pizza, I'd punch him in his personal space. :laugh:0 -
Mine is public and has been since very early in my journey. My friends comment on it, just as I comment on theirs. I have not received drive-by comments from strangers. I am doing as much as possible to become detached from food. What I eat is not personal. The only thing you know about me by looking at my diary is that I know how to cook. Any other judgements people might form have nothing to do with me.0

Mine is open, and I respect those that choose to keep thiers private.
When I look at someone's menu it gives me ideas.I have found so many new foods, recipes, and ideas like this. I have seen my share of rude commetns, but to each their own. I must say some people truly do not know how their words can effect some people. :flowerforyou:0 -
I keep mine open:) its nice incase people want to see ideas, and for a newbie and can maybe help someone to see sometimes even the people that lost alot have their bad days like anyone else ya know. I admit to my bad days and have my good days:) I love to see other peoples diaries to try new foods and brands of things...Ive gotton mostly good or funny comments on my diary, when its something like a cupcake or banana loaf people usually just comment that they wish they had one lol, I think most people on here are pretty mature not to be huge downers if they see some french fries on your diary, it is what it is we all do it time to time:)0

Mine is friends only to many rude, unsolicited comments in the past.0

I've noticed a few users who have made their food diaries available for public viewing. Just wondering how many of you do this, and if not why. I'm thinking about doing this to kind of motivate me to keep eating healthy. Anyone who does make their diaries available, do you ever get comments on what you're eating?
Mine is public. I've gotten quite a few comments (all good). I don't do it for the comments, but it certainly doesn't hurt! Personally, I love to browse people's diaries for menu ideas.0 -

I post mine b/c it helps me to be accountable to my MFP friends. And I love it when ppl make comments about certain things that I've eaten.0

Mine is public but I never get comments on it. If people ever did give me feedback on it I'd actually appreciate it and welcome it as constructive criticism. I know there's major room for improvement.0
-
Public, because I don't want MFP friends congratulating me on having a good day when they have no idea what I ate. Honestly, when I've indulged in a beer or a dessert, but had an otherwise healthy day, I've had nothing but positive comments. I think most people on MFP love seeing an indulgence as part of an overall healthy diet. Yes, you can have that rare brownie and still keep within your goals! And I do love browsing diaries for good snack ideas. To each his own - whatever makes you most successful here is definitely what you should do!0

I agree
I try to not give blanket "way to go" statements because I don't want to encourage poor nutrition, if someone is really struggling and I don't know their situation. I'm more likely to say "hope you had a healthy day" or "good job logging your day."
I like that people have public diaries because I get great ideas from other peoples' food diaries when I get bored with what I'm doing.0 -
I am new will start sat 5/21/20110
