Beginner Exercise

How many times as a beginner do you exercise per week?
I try to aim for 6 times a week and since I started a month ago, I've been doing very good at that.
But some people are telling me that you should aim for 3-4 times to start out and if you do more great!
What types of exercise would you all recommend for beginners? (right now Im just doing low impact aerobics video and the treadmill for a bit - but I hate our treadmill @ home.)
Im also throwing in 10 mins of the rower when I get bored. I really want an elliptical though.
I want to shed more weight!! (I never thought I'd be saying that!) lol

Everyone should exercise a minimum of 3-4 days/week. If you're able to fit 6 days into your lifestyle, all the better!
As for what type of workouts to do, you should get a good combo of cardio workouts and weight training. I alternate my days - every other day, I do weight/resistance training and the days inbetween I do cardio. I keep Sundays as my rest day.
Mix up what you're doing so A) you don't get bored andyour body doesn't catch on to what you are doing and adapt to your exercise routine. Once your muscles adapt to doing the same exercises over and over, it makes it more difficult for you to lose weight.
I've done workouts at the gym, I've done workouts at home with different DVDs but the ones that I found worked best for me were from Beachbody. They're the only ones that I've been able to lose weight (28 pounds) and keep it off.
As long as you're moving and expending more energy (calories) than you take in, and hopefully having fun doing it - that's really all that matters!
Best wishes to you! Keep up the good work!0 -
I say go with what feels good. If you enjoy working out 5-6 times, then go for it!0

When I started exercising on a daily basis back in late January I started off with 5 days a week and mostly on the treadmill and exercise tv (aerobics-low impact) like you but then I picked it up when I bought a ellipitical a month later when I started doing that for 45-60 mins every day, now I've toned it down a bit and change my exercise routine on a daily basis to "shock" my body so it won't get use to the same exercise everytime.
Now I exercise 7 days a week, at least 30 is my goal but more like 60 mins a day is what I do. I either jog, exercise TV, elliptical, treadmill or walking these days. I will do a combination of as many as I put in one day and it's been working great for me.
I say to you, do what you feel good doing and stick with it, it's worth it in the end.0
