So, this is kind of a TMI question. Does anyone else on here have trouble with constipation since starting dieting? I looked it up and read that increasing my fiber should help the problem, but I still don't see much of a change. I feel like I have to go a lot, but never actually can. Any suggestions?

Drink lots of water and have a lot of fruits such as melon, prunes, ... that have a lot of fibers and water in them.

Prunes will do it! Just a couple of those bad boys a day and you should be cured! :)

i am having the same issue. I used to go every morning. Now I am lucky if I get something out every 3-4 days. I have also tried increasing my fiber by taking metamucil. Still nothing.

i have had this same problem. i think it is bc we eat so much protein which can be very constipating. I take an OTC stool softener once a day and that seems to help. NOT a laxative, just a stool softner. Also I add benefiber powder to my protein shakes and my water a couple times a day to help get all my fiber in. Hope this helps!

Make sure you increase your water intake along with increasing your fiber. :)

Yup, that's common, especially if you lay off the bread and pasta... stuff like that.
I just go to the health food store and get cilium powder... mix with juice or water and drink some each day to boost your fibre. :)
    Happy Pooping! haha

Increasing fiber absorbs water initially...so up the water

If you increased fiber you also need more water, drink a minimum of 8 cups/day (2Litres, 64 oz)

Lots of water, and try either--yogurt most have a natural enzyme that that helps with the good stuff in your intestines, or acidopholis pills, natural bacteria in them that helps also.

Take a Shot of Milk of Mag , and that will get you going... just do not do it before going to work!!!! *not a good idea*

best to take it when you get home from work.....

This has been an lifetime problem for me, so it might be a little different than your situation. I take probiotic supplements, not the yogurt but capsules from the health food store. It has changed my life!

Good luck, I'm well aware of the frustration that can bring.

BTDT!!! :blushing: :grumble: Make sure you are hitting/are over on your fiber target (you can change your food diary settings to watch fiber) and are getting in 8-10 IF NOT MORE cups of water every day. When you add/up your fiber intake you need to up your water intake correspondingly!!! Exercise helps keep things moving as well, so if you needed more reason to get up and get moving....

I would recommend a soluble Vitamin C tablet every morning. Hope it sorts itself out :o)
  • Exercising sometimes helps get things going for me... :-P But then again, I've never been a "once-a-day" pooper, so I don't get freaked out about it. Drink lots of water with your fiber, and don't stress about it, because that'll probably just make the problem worse.

I would also echo the fibre and water recommendation. Oatmeal every morning.

Thanks, everybody. I have upped my water intake a lot, to about 2/3 of my body weight in oz. I'll try yogurts and prunes, those are pretty rare in my diet, and if those don't work, I'll try some of the supplements, and as a last resort, my good old nemesis, ex-lax. Cheers to all who commented!

Try drinking Metamucil...I have some if you need it. You can stop in after work and pick it up....
