"Pre Diabetic" looking at it rationally !!!

Those that know me will be aware i've been rather preoccupied of late with personal stuff, thanks for all your support it really helped me to hang in there.
:ohwell: So my GP wasn't happy with my 'blood sugar levels' so blood tests and one 'glucose tollerance test' later the bad news is i'm 'Glucose Intollerant' which in a nutshell means pre diabetic, the good news is this may be controlable by continuing my good word with my healthy eating and exercise regeime. However :frown: as diabetes is a factor in my family there may actually be nothing i can do to prevent it.!!!!! Told the diabetic nusre about MFP and what i'm doing, she looked in total disbelief (her expression was "oh yeah right, heard that all before") I could have slapped the insensitive woman..But even she had to 'grudgingly' admit 17lbs off is considerably lighter than the last time i was weighed at the surgery. She then went on to say fererring to how insulin in the body works, that with slim people like her she eats a meal her body processes it and returns to normal, but with fat people like me, what goes wrong is .......how i kept my hands off her i'll never know. I asked what my thyroid test had returned, apparently it hadn't been done (it had been check Dec/10 and returned normal) i requested a new test as it too is prevelent in my family and she refused me !! said they only tested thise with the problem and taking Thyroxine once a year. Does anyone know if it's a good idea to be tested more than once a year.

My first step would be a new diabetes nurse / educator. Holy hell. My GP diagnosed me as a type 2 diabetic at 18 and refused me insulin after 2 years of different medication trials. I started seeing an endocrinologist in another city, and since then I've been re-diagnosed as a type 1 and I'm on an insulin pump. So... I will forever encourage someone to get a good health care team!!
Pre-diabetes can usually be managed (I don't like to use the word 'controlled'... because what happens when you're not in control??) by exercise and healthy eating. At worst, it can be postponed. That's not so bad!!
As far as the thyroid test goes, if you feel there truly is a problem, INSIST on having it done. If (and pardon my bluntness) you are just looking for reassurance from the last test, maybe wait until this coming December (one year point) and request a test be done then.
I can't stress enough... to EVERYONE on here... that (A) yes, diabetes sucks and (B) it can be completely managed! There are so many options and resources now to manage diabetes, you just have to look and educate yourself.
Hopefully things look up for you soon hun!0
