I had a bit of a realization and I wanted to share it with more than just people on my friends list.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I made egg salad for my fiance to take to a potluck, well he brought the leftovers home and he said he had left it out for 3-4 hours. I really wanted some but wasn't sure if it was still good or not. So I looked it up online and of course it said don't let it sit out for longer than 3-4 hours. The old me would've taken the chance of getting food poisoning to have some, but the new habits I developed made me throw it out. Not exactly the same but close. Also I heated up a vegan tofu pasta dish, and it was just ok, normally again I wouldn't have eaten it but I couldn't bare the thought of wasting 150 cals on it.

I can so relate to this! When my brother and I were growing up, my parents instilled in us the "Eat everything on your plate, no matter what, don't waste food!" mentality. This of course meant that when I inevitably took a larger portion than I should've, or even more than I really wanted to eat in the end, I forced it down because I couldn't bear throwing food away. Same thing with food that wasn't that good, especially if I'd bought it; I'd eat it and feel bleh later, but I'd convinced myself that it was better than wasting it.

I'm slowly improving this attitude, thank goodness.
