Exercise Can Be Fun???

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz! Yes, that is what I am doing when I should be working out first thing in the morning or later in the evening. I will admit that I have a hard time self-starting when it comes to working out, but I also attribute my "laziness" with the lack of fun and variety in my exercise. I try to walk my dog daily for a half an hour, but even that can get mundane. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on making my workout fun outside of the gym???

I enjoy a good fun dance work out DVD
Pick music that you enjoy and something that's fun and you'll want to keep doing it.0 -
Yes, exercise is fun, but getting up early in the morning NEVER is.0

What kinds of activities do you like to do? I do Taekwondo and the desire to get in better shape so I can get my black belt is part of what motivates me to do home workouts. The more active I get, the more active I want to be. I've asked for a bike for my birthday and have recently begun running. Not very fast but I'll get there! I am also looking forward to hiking a lot this summer. Find some things you like to do and maybe some friends who want to join you.0

Zumba and jazzercise classes, hands down.
If they aren't your thing, continuously switch your music on your ipod or whatever you use. It won't get dull and repetitive.
Also make your mini goals come with rewards that you REALLY like, like most women get mani/pedis, new dresses or whatever. It'll give you cool things to work hard for and look forward to!0 -
go with friends, take a class, take your friends to a class! do belly dancing it doesnt feel like you're working out but you really are, zumba! its like dancing, shakin you booty like if you were at the club... its over before you know it, and you will want more...0

I just got a bicycle and there are a lot of places around here to ride it. (QUEENS, NY)
When I was living in a more rural area I had a canoe and used to like to take that out. You use a lot of back/arm/core to paddle your canoe especially if paddle from a kneeling position instead of sitting down.0 -
walking is the most boring thing. Add an ipod and it becomes bearable
I really love P90X because it is variable, challenging and you see improvements all the time.
I guess you just got to try a few things to see what floats your boat, good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
I download audiobooks onto my ipod and only allow myself to listen to them while exercising. It works really well to motivate me to be active. Good luck!

Depends on what you like to do for me walking, running, hiking never feel like exercise as long as I am out side. Hate walking or running on a 'dreadmill', but as long as I am outside time just flies. I think that exercise is only fun if you are doing something you enjoy. I hate gyms and when I used to go to the gym 15 minutes felt like hours.0

I try to do a variety both with others and by myself. I play softball with my husbands and friends, go ice or roller skating, go hiking, ride my bike, jog, walk, go folfing, or even just get out and play frisbee. If I push myself I can usually work up a good sweat with most of these activities, and getting out and starting something usually makes me want to add more to my daily routine such as situps or a short workout video. Good luck and make sure you have good company or good music, both are a must!!0

Tae Bo! I got a boxset recently and I love it! Billy Blanks is very motivational and the fact that it's fun and you can feel that it's working, is motivation to move the coffee table and switch it on!0

I agree lots of music, Dance Party 2 for the Wii is a fun workout as well. If you have kids any kind of outside activity , play tag, have mini races, Kick ball! Swimming is also a great calorie burner!0

I put some fun in exercise by adding a couple of Wii games that will give you a workout. Michael Jackson the Experience really is a workout if you dance like him. I like outdoor challenge too because you have to run jump and do the work the play the game and your Mii loses weight the more you play! I also love belly dancing very cool learning how to dance like that and it doesn't feel like exercise.0

I listen to audio books. I get them through Audible.com.0

I like Wii games, walking, and yoga. Heck, I like most types of exercise now, but I didn't used to. I found the more I exercised, the more I liked it.0

This.
The more I exercise, the more I like it lol. And the more you see results...yeah, the more you'll begin to LOVE it.
Additionally I put motivational music on my phone to play. Motivational doesn't necessarily mean upbeat or fast (though those work too lol)...but more music that inspires you to DO something with yourself. Switchfoot - Dare You to Move is a good example, not real up paced, but man, listening to that song makes you want to succeed at your goals. The Wallflowers - One Headlight is another that works for me. Again, rhythmic, but no real fast pace. Chase & Status - Pieces has multiple ranges of tempo. The one that's least likely though is probably Trace Adkins - I'm Tryin' lol. And on the other end of the spectrum...Flyleaf - I'm So Sick =D.
Anyhow, find what works for you! I have like 45 songs on my list, so I can hit random, and I know I've got plenty of music without anything getting boring.
