Shin Splints Are Going To Be The Death Of Me!

Yes I'm back! I posted a topic about shin splints around my 2nd week into working out heavily and I'm back.

GRR! Shin splits and leg cramps are going to be the death of me! Last night during Zumba they started kicking in again. The are throbbing this evening and I'm honestly not sure what to do. It seems like if I work out for 2 or more consecutive days by the end of the week they are killing me.

I've tried 3 different pairs of shoes, including jazz shoes for Zumba. I danced and cheered for 12 years growing up with no leg problems. Granted I was MUCH younger and MUCH healthier then, but I thought that trying out those shoes again might do the trick for Zumba since it's mostly dance anyway.

I've tried taking days off when they start getting bad or taking it easier when they are bothering me.

But I'm at a loss as to what I can do to get past this. I don't want to HAVE to take it easy or take days off, but short of that I'm really not sure what to do. Is there something I can be adding to my diet to help with these? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Stretch Stretch Stretch Before, Drink more water and eat a banana for the cramps.
    Do this exercise
sit on couch with legs stretched out, point toes, write abcs with toes 3x. Do this often as much as you can. Use ice and heat after exercise 20 min each

What kind of stretching are you doing for your calves?

I found I had to stretch a few times a day...ice them after activity..and I tape up my calves/shins before I exercise..and even with all that they still are not completely better (it's been over a year & yep have been to the dr/physio/chiropractor)...but it is managable now.
I also found when the problem was really bad the only relief I had was from active release therapy..maybe there is someone in your area that does that-I had a chiropractor that was trained to do it.
