how much water do you need to drink per mg of salt to equal it out?

I have no idea but it's best to stay under 2000 mg of sodium daily and drink at least 80 oz of water. (that's 10 cups, not 8)0

There is no magic number as levels are also affected by other ions in your blood such as Chloride and Potassium. But as others have said, try to limit your sodium (1500 mg is the recommendation by the American Heart Association) and drink plenty of water. 1/2 oz per lb of body weight.0

I struggle to drink enough water as it is to be honest...I get about 6 cups in a day normally, with perhaps 2 or 3 cups more if you cound the little bit of cherry pomegranate drink mix I use with my two to three big meals.
As for sodium...I've GOT to be eating way, way more salt than that. I'm usually at or above that when using generic food items, not counting any seasoning!

There is no magic number. I get Kidney stones from sodium. So there is many reason's to have less sodium! I do suggest to add it to your diary and stay around 1500. Its hard I know! If you buy stuff that doesnt have hormones add for meat it usually has very very little sodium!0

You can't. Drinking lots of water doesn't cancel out going over on your sodium. If you are one of those people who gets a headache from too much salt, water may relieve the headache, but it doesn't cancel out the amount of sodium you have consumed.As others have mentioned, it's best to stay in the 1500 range. This means if you drink soda or eat fast food meals you need to factor that into the rest of you're meals because those 2 things can easily use up your daily allotment0

Damn, if I drank that much water I would have a hard time making enough trips to the head between meetings. Still I think you are worrying about a none issue. Generally 8-12 is the magic number of cups that gets recommended. Keep in mind it's just a number that doesn't really mean much. Most people's diets have too much sodium anyway.
Just remember that as long as you make water you liquid of choice and drink when you are thirst than you are fine. The over hydration crazy is really about making you feel full more than any need. I never worry about whether I drank 6 or 10 cups of water in a day. My body will tell me if I need more not some crazy number not based on any hard science.
I think your risk of water intoxication is probably pretty limited unless you are running a marathon every day.0 -

Not exactly. Water also helps you're body process the food you eat. Especially if you increase your fiber. Water is way more important than just as a filler to keep you full.

The magic number is 35ml/kg that puts me at about 3.5l (18 cups) a day, I don't make it anywhere near that on most days however on heavy excercise days it can exceed that.
It is important that whilst your trying to loose weight (fat) that you increase you water intake because toxins that you have consumed over time are stored in those fat cellsand if you are loosing a large amount of weight quickly you need the extra water to help flush them out of your system.
If the increased water is making you hang out around the bathroom to the point its creeping you work mates out try adding a tiny pinch of rock salt to the water as this helps your body hang onto it.0
