My house is roughly 30 mins away from my gym...maybe further depending on which one I go to.....
So instead of eating out after working out.......what are some quick good cold foods to pack to eat after working out at the gym....
I really don't want to wait to get home then cook.....will be after 9ish by the time I get home....depending on what I do after Zumba.

I bought a ton of protein bars and that's pretty much what I eat. I'm not really that hungry after working out though but I do feel like I'm about to die.0

I'm not sure about food, but drinking milk after a workout is really good for you. It has electrolytes, is excellent for re-hydration, the fat content of it decreases your hunger etc.0

I have to be careful with protein bars......I'm HIGHLY allergic to casein!!! So NO milk products!!!!!0

You can throw just about anything into an insulated bag....is this supposed to substitute for your dinner? One of my favorite things which I eat for breakfast right now, but can really be for anytime of day is a Thomas' Everything Bagel Thin, 1 oz. fat free cream cheese, 1/4 cup strawberries or raspberries, 3 small slices of deli smoked turkey and a little bit of either baby spinach or arugula. I toast the bagel lightly and don't usually eat it until i get to work which is an hour from my house and it keeps just fine!0

almonds, craisins, soy cheese (or a cheese alternative if you can't do milk products), grapes, banana, baby carrots, bell pepper strips, snap peas (the veggies can go a few hours without being refrigerated)...maybe a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread if you need something more than snacks?
Hope you get some good ideas!
PS...Zumba rocks!0 -

Ok, so then I guess you can't have the sandwich I mentioned above with the cream cheese....however, you could substitute with a non dairy cream cheese or just to keep the sandwich moist, believe it or not, dijon mustard is also great with the berries...0 -
Keep a protein bar and eat that on the way home. Depending on how hard you worked out, you may be hungry after you shower, you may not. I usually am!0

Thanks!!!! I will figure something out....I'm usually hungry afterworking out because I don't eat before I work out.....only because there is no time to....well there could be...but usually busy doing stuff around the house before leaving to go to the gym.....Zumba is at 645 pm CST.0

I personally cannot eat for at least 30 minutes after working out but almost all personal trainers will tell you to fuel your body asap after a workout. I usually drink an EAS advantedge choc protein drink...followed by a well balanced meal as soon as I can. Definitely need to have carbs to provide your body with immediate fuel. Protein is important to aid in muscle soreness and muscle repar/growth. I have heard numerous times that chocolate milk is an excellent balance of protein, fat and carbs. I often use as a substitue.0

our gym has GREAT shakes that I can have.....its just the money part.........0

I buy them in bulk so they are around 1.25/ea. If you are hungry for food with substance, you could have an apple with peanut butter or a sandwich with veggies in it or as a side.0

Amazing meal!! It's a protein shake so to speak. It comes in a few flavors. You can get at you local whole foods store maybe even at a health food store. You can add water, juice or milk. But since you can have regular milk try almond milk. it doesn't have to be cold. It's better tasting that way in my opinion. It has protein, minerals, vitamins, fruits, veggies and health bacteria in it. It looks weird but tastes amazing hence the name. Try it you may like it. Plus It comes in packets of 15g or so, so you can try all the flavors before buying a bottle of it.0 -
Try taking a couple of hardboiled eggs in a container and an apple (or any other easily transportable fruit). The eggs will give your body the protein it needs to start rebuilding your muscle tissue and the fruit will give you the little bit of carbs and sugar to get you some quick energy.0

Thank you a bunch for the different options.
As for the protein packet shakes, I have to be careful that they don't have casein or any milk products in them. I'm allergic to the casein.
Going to the store tonight. I wil check out our healthfood section when I'm there.
I had thought about apples and peanut butter.0
