Garmin Forerunner 410

Ok, so my parents gave me the Garming Forerunner 410 for my birthday a few years ago. I LOVE the watch, but I recently bought the heart rate monitor strap and for a 60-min workout, it showed it burned 12 calories
That makes absolutely no sense.
Has anyone else had issues with their HRM's calorie estimate? Any suggestions on different watches or ways of improving the accuracy?
Today was also the first time I used it, but I don't think that would make any difference.
Needless to say, I'm frustrated that I spent $52 on something that isn't what I thought it was :grumble:

Did you set your user settings correctly? Was the heart rate output correct during the workout?0

the forerunner is generally a good product in my experience. Have check the settings of user (age, weight etc...) may be is not set correctly?
Soz you beat me to it! ;-)0 -
I have the user settings all set, but I realized after poking around on the watch for a bit that it recorded that I only moved .34 miles in 60-minutes. No wonder it displayed only 12 calories!
I wasn't running though, I was doing a P90X workout and now I'm thinking that maybe the Forerunner can't estimate calories based only on heart rate?
I emailed Garmin and explained that what I wanted was to be able to do any kind of workout and have the HRM display the calorie burn I'm assuming based on my age, weight, gender, HR, etc...rather than how fast and how far I'm moving.
Hopefully I'll get a reponse sometime next week!
Does anyone know how to set the Forerunner like I mentioned above?0 -
The 410 doesn't estimate calorie burn based on heart rate. It calculates based on distance. I believe only the 310xt and the 610 calculate calorie burn based on heart rate.0

Thanks ilsie!
I went to ****'s Sporting Goods today and found a different HRM for $60. I may look around online for a cheaper one.
I still love the FR 410...it's a GREAT running tool.0 -
No problem.
I love my 310xt. It's easily my most favorite piece of running gear.0 -
I know this thread is way old (found it googling P90x and garmin410 actually to see if others are using it and how successfuly they are) and from Garmin's website the 410 DOES do heart rate based calorie computation --

"Forerunner 410 provides heart rate-based calorie computations so you can more accurately track your calories burned."0
