protein powder in oatmeal

Anyone do this? I think I'd like to start doing that, LOL, but I'm a little afraid of the taste. I have to eat oatmeal every day for breakfast because it's the only thing that fills me up enough to hold me over until lunch with the least calories, but if I could add some protein somehow, I'd be able to get all my protein in for the day for sure.

My hubby does it (calls it proatmeal), and I have tried- once. I used vanilla flavor (along with my usual peanut butter), and it was a little weird. But I think it could be ok if you start with smaller amounts of protein powder and work your way up. :)

Get the Kashi Go Lean Truly Vanilla and put vanilla protein in it and you will find this to be very tasteful (I use this almost every other morning).

I add vanilla creme muscle milk to my coffee every morning. Same idea. It's the best tasting protein powder I've found (I HATE all others). In oatmeal, it'd probably taste the same (as in my coffee). Give it a try, you won't know unless you try it!

I've been thinking about doing the same thing sometimes. I have some organic steel cut oats (which have a great nutty flavor) and I found an all natural (as in ONLY whey protein is in the canister) protein powder. Has really no flavor and no added sugars. It's called IsoNatural. If I feel like I need sweetness, then I can add some rapadura or local honey to the oatmeal.

Here's the powder for anyone interested:

I actually had protein oatmeal this morning. I found cooking on the stove taste better than in the microwave. I add about 1/2 scoop of Meijer Brand Whey Powder (Vanilla) to 1/2 cup of old fashioned oatmeal and 1 cup of light soy milk. It turns out really really good! I also add a banana. It keeps me full until lunch!

I love to add 1 scoop Advocare Muscle Gain Protein Powder (Chocolate) with a spoonful of peanutbutter to my oatmeal. Trying adding 1/2 banana, spoonful of strawberry jelly, fresh fruit or walnuts. Adding protein is so important to every meal/snack.

Oh my gosh, that is my favorite breakfast. I first got the recipe out of the "Body For Life" cookbook.

    From memory:
1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup of water, 1 scoop of protein powder (whey tasted terrible but Muscle Milk light chocolate works great for me) and 1 packet of non-sugar sweetener. Mix well. Put it in the microwave for 2 minutes and then add 1 tbsp of peanut butter and 1/2 cup of milk.

I used to eat this a lot- I would cook the oats in water (w/ sweetener- sometimes vanilla/cinnamon depending on protein flavor), then stir in the powder at the end, topping with some fat free Greek yogurt. Really good with chocolate protein powder- I used 1/3 cup oats, 1/2 portion protein powder and 1 serving Greek yogurt- came in around 250 calories and 25g protein between the powder and Greek yogurt.

I use Pure Protein, Frosty Chocolate, a little bit of yogurt and some strawberries in my oatmeal. I also have the same thing in the evening for a comforting snack. Covers the protein and gives me a little bit of calcium, too. Unfortunately, I continue to forget to buy Oatmeal every time I go to the grocery. Been without for about two weeks now. DUH.
