30+ X (divided by 2) = 600

30+ X (divided by 2) = 60

<---math teacher.
to get an average, you add up the items and divide by the number of items.
2 miles to go, so we will be dividing by 2.
first mile 30. add to that the speed we are looking for, X. Divide the result by two to get an average of 60.
(30+x)/2=60
X=900 -

Work out how long a car takes to do one mile at 30 mph?
Work out how long the car has for the entire journey?0 -
60mph for 2 miles takes 2 minutes.
30mph for 1 miles also takes 2 minutes.
Can I get one of those cars? I'd make a fortune doing deliveries.0 -
I answered the question asked with the provided info. You can ask different questions, and they will have different answers.0

Lol, me too......sounds easy doesn't it but actually it can't be done as the car has already taken the full two minutes to do the first mile.0 -

I agree with this. You never stated that it needed to do this in two minutes. You just asked how fast it would have to go to reach the target of averaging 60 mph for the two miles.0 -

No, you work out that it needs to do it in two minutes from an average speed of 60 mph over 2 miles as per the question, 60 mph being one mile per minute.0 -
