How do you combat mindless eating? I've got a lot of time to myself coming up and don't want to fall back into my old habits of evening eating for the sake of eating....

If you find yourself wandering into the kitchen, stop and make yourself do something else. Find something to do with your hands. Also try not to think of things like biscuits or chocolate or crisps as food. I just don't buy those things (though Hotel Chocolat have decided to send me sample boxes, damn them!), so they aren't in the house so I can't snack on them. I only have fruit in, or things that require preparation. I don't buy bread for the same reason.

I read on here to brush your teeth. Once u brush your teeth, you wont want to eat.
As for me, I just found 100 calorie kettle corn. That is my new to go to snack if I am just watching tv.

Get too busy to eat. Turn your cupboards out, plan some work on the garden, get your tax returns in order, do some sewing, read a good book or ten, just do anything that's going to keep you out of the kitchen.

Oh, and chuck out all the snacks you shouldn't be eating. If you only have crisp veggie things like carrot sticks and celery or fruit, you'll either get to enjoy snacking on those or you'll give up snacking because you find it boring. Either way is a win.
