I find myself struggling with staying at 1200 calories & still getting at least 90 g. of protein a lot! Anyone have any helpful tips on how to sneak in extra protein or a good meal plan or food diary that's trying to do the same thing? =]

I'm on 1200 and often get more than 90g of protein.
Here are my main protein sources:
-Skinless, boneless chicken breasts
-Greek Yogurt
-Eggs
-Nuts and nut butters
-Protein powder (in a smoothie)
-I usually get 3 glasses of skim milk a day
-Usually also have 1-2 ounces of cheese a day0 -
cup of egg whites
slice of bread
protein smoothie
tbsp natural peanut butter
4oz chicken breast
asparagus
greek yogurt
almonds
4 oz chicken breast
green veggies
4 egg whites
total protein in grams........ 1460 -

the idea is to make sure you get at least 20 grams of protein per meal but no more than 25... (the body cant absorb more than 25grams in one sitting)0

oh ok. What happens if you eat more than 25?! It like cancels itself out?!0

If you eat too much protein your kidneys can't process it all and it can end up metabolizing into fat just like any excess you take in. If you do a google search on just "too much protein" you'll find some good articles on the topic. And most of them also talk about how much you should be getting and how.0

Good to know, thanks.0 -

Your kidneys do not 'process protein' in any way, shape or form. :huh:0 -

Whoa hold up there. Those 2 things are myths. The over 20g thing is only when you need it quick for recovery (post workout). And I have also read the kidney thing has no proof behind it.0

I keep hearing people say this, but have never seen any proof of it. As far as my reading has went the body can digest as much protein as you eat, it just takes longer. If it couldn't when someone eats a lot of meat it would come out undigested which it doesn't. If you have an actual study referenced for this I would appreciate knowing what it is.0 -

Sorry, I do everything online via my phone and typed too quickly without reading back and making sure what I typed was clear. What I was trying to say is that your body cannot process the excess protein properly, which can put too much stress on your kidneys, as well as metabolize the excess protein to fat. And while the old myth that too much protein itself can cause kidney failure has been debunked, it still isn't recommended to be on a high protein diet if you have any history of kidney issues. The kidneys flush out waste from the system, including the ketones from a high protein diet, so if you have too much protein, you have a higher amount of excess ketones, which your kidneys then try to kick into overdrive to flush out of your system.
For healthy kidneys, all you're doing is stressing your body and possibly building fat stores out the excess protein, but likely not causing any actual damage. But if a person has any kidney issues or possibility of kidney issues (family history) then they should definitely avoid higher protein diets.0 -
90 Grams!? you should only be getting 40-50 grams a day.
and where did this 1200 come from..that is no magical weight loss number..its something some random person just came up with and people jumped on like its fact.
if you cant eat 1200 cals, then dont..it wont hurt you. you wont starve etc blah blah more myths.0
