Working out 2x a day

I'm thinking of upping the intensity and doing 2 sets of cardio per day. One in the am (with strength training) and once after work.. Just like 30-45 mins of the treadmill. The question is, is that too much?

As long as you are able to get enough sleep at night, and eat back your exercise calories, then you should be okay. Just listen to your body though. When you need rest, make sure you rest. Don't overdo it, and make sure you do have at least one rest day a week.0

Nope not too much. I do doubles everyday. I work out at lunch doing cardio (spinning or treadmill) and some light weights depending on if my coworker is with me. I am his "trainer" LOL! And then in the evenings I am doing P90X. Well that is my plan. I am currently doing kickboxing 3 days a week - this is my last week for it. I don't see nothing wrong with doing doubles. As long as you are feeding your calories in order to maintain your workout schedule.0

probably not.. are you walking or running or doing intervals or what? are you literally making workouts more intense as well as doubling them, or just doubling them? i'd suggest doing more strength training than cardio, personally..
i suppose i wouldn't just because i don't want to shower twice in a day!!0 -

lol That is the exact reason I wouldn't exercise twice in one day. One shower with blow drying my hair is plenty for me.0 -
I think it's fine. Last year I would take a morning class at my gym (usually spinning or power) and then 1-2 night classes (usually kick boxing, step, mat pilates, bar pilates, or yoga). Each of these classes was an hour. I did this for about 2 months and felt great. Before I did that, I was swimming for 20-30min in the morning before work and doing 30min cardio + weight training in the afternoon 5 days a week. Then I did more on the weekends before and after my other job (which required me to be on my feet all day and a significant amount of physical activity). I also got plenty of sleep. Didn't have a social life though. Haha.
Oh and I also walked to and from both of my jobs. My weekday job was a half hour walk away, and my weekend job was about 12min away. My gym was between both jobs (about 15min from my house).
Anyway, I def think our bodies can handle it. I mean cavemen had to run around all day hunting, right?0 -
I workout twice a day,(sometimes 3x) - I'd say go for it.
Just listen to your body.
Stay hydrated and don't forget to give your muscle groups a break!0 -
Go for it!
But my best advise is to increase it in steps.
Either every other day or a very small second session.
Try to gauge if it is not too much and then when you are comfortable add more sessions or duration.
Plan some rest ahead as you will get tired at some stage if you don't.
Also you might like to mix it up or add new different cardio or sports to avoid becoming a very boring routine. Some suggestions, not sure what you are already doing so it is difficult! Add long or short intervals one day, a "hills" set another (higher resistance where you grind) a set distance time trial every other week and see if you can beat your time etc...
But whatever you do, go at it gradually: is consistency you aim at, not blowing up after two weeks! ;-)
Best of luck!0
