Depression

I was layed off work last August and had a series of bad dating mishaps, which led to a depression state. Recently I've tried to fight it. Today, :brokenheart: I decided to be a masochist and get on the scale to see how much I've gained back from a year and a 1/2 ago. (I've been doing mFP again for two weeks so I might of lost some weight) I weigh as much as when I started MFP the first time. I am sooo depressed.

Hang in there! We all have our setbacks. Given all you've been through it's understandable that your health goals were on the back burner for a while. You were in a bad place and needed to focus on that for a while. But, as you see progress you're sure to feel better about yourself and more optimistic about life. The good part is, you know for a fact that you *can* lose this weight - after all, you've already done it once before!0

I'm sorry to hear all of this.
BUT... this is an opportunity to become stronger and you can do it. Instead of focusing on the bad, focus on the positive. There's plenty of inspiration on this website and I don't think it was masochistic to step on the scale. I think it was the first of a series of events you're taking to regain control of your life and start moving in the direction YOU choose, not what has been chosen for you. You can do this.0 -

I've been there too. Emotions deffinately affect our eating habits. But you can do this!! Surround yourself with positivism. I got faith in you so don't let me down.0

Ohhhh that sucks!!!! This is why I love MFP though. You have this whole built in network of support. It's amazing!! Anytime I'm feeling down I get on here and just look at all the comments and encouragement, my accomplishments and theirs. It's daily inspiration! Life loves to just throw a bunch of hell at you all at once. But it really will get better.0

Oh! And the other great thing is this is something you actually have control over! You can't always control your job situation. You sure as heck can't control other people or how they treat you. But your body, your health---you have so much control over that! It always helps to take control of something when you need to pull yourself out of depression.0

Its kind of a slap in the face. I knew I had gained weight but thought I was 10 lbs lighter than I am. Shocking0

You are not alone -- I've been there, too. Last year, I lost my job and stopped eating healthy. I was lucky enough to find another job while I was in "transition", but still felt depressed since I had lost a job I loved, and now am in a "just a job" situation. But the best part about this job is that I actually look forward to coming home at night, and I now have time to exercise! I suffer from depression, too, and exercise has made a huge difference in keeping it at bay.
Remember to take time for yourself right now. Looking for a job can be full-time work, but you have to remember to take some breaks. (You would if you were working, right?) Fix good, healthy meals for yourself, and find some time to do some exercise. It will make you feel even better for when you get that interview (or perhaps meet someone new).
Also, be aware of those family members, friends, and acquaintances who will treat you differently when you are unemployed. Many qualified people are unemployed right now -- it doesn't mean that you're not a qualified, capable professional, and any company would be lucky to have you. You just need to go out there and find them!
Above all -- take care of yourself and explore new opportunities. Don't let Depression get the better of you!0 -
Thank you. I did get the opportunity to start going back to school. I guess I can blame it on the "Freshman 15!" lol0

I almost went back to grad school after my first layoff (It's been a rough couple of years -- darn economy!) I wish I had -- might have prevented the 2nd layoff!
Take advantage of your time off, figure out what you LOVE to do and do what you love!0 -
Thanks... I thought now is the chance to get the degree that I thought would solve all my problems... boost my self-esteem, improve my job prospects, and employment value. I guess it can't hurt. (shrug) its just going to be an Assoicates though...then I'll see if I feel up to or can go for more.0
