Niacin will lower your LDL mildly. It's primary purpose is to raise your HDL. If your primary problem is a high LDL, then Niacin probably isn't for you. Then one of the statins would be better. Plant stanols and sterols will also help lower your LDL about 8-10%.0

My boyfriend was on high doses of Niacin for nearly 5 years, then the doc added other meds. He started to have some issues so the doc told him to take the Niacin at night before bed.... he couldn't sleep. He would lay there feeling like his entire body had fallen asleep... the pins and needles sensation, as well as being beet red and flushed all over. It also caused stomach upset. He stopped taking it, and refused to start again. It didn't seem to have much of an effect on his LDL, well, not until I started preparing his meals and such.0
