Hey everyone. I love salads. But my downfall is always dressings. I need something light. I love my light dressings, especially ginger based. If anyone has any ideas on low calorie dressings, I would be much appreciated. Even homemade recipes are fine. :)

Thankss!

I like Good Seasonings packets, especially Garlic and Herb made with cider vinegar (I use 1/4 c oil + 1/4 c water instead of 1/2 C oil....)

I'm also a huge fan of Newman's Own light ginger dressing.....

There's one at trader joe's that has zero fat and like 45 calories per serving. It's soy sesame ginger and it's delicious!

dlife.com has some amazing recipes on it for just about anything you can think of. I love the one for Japanese Ginger Dressing.

1 small carrots, fresh, 5 1/2" long , peeled and shredded
    2 tbsp mirin
    2 tbsp cider vinegar
1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
    1/2 tsp sesame oil
    2 tbsp minced onion
1 tbsp Mustard, prepared, original English, Colman's
1 tbsp fresh ginger root , grated
Blend all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth. (makes 8 1oz servings at 23 calories each)

Check out the Bolthouse Farms dressings (in the refrigerator section). They're really creamy and delicious, but they're made with yogurt, so they're lower cal than regular dressings. I have the honey mustard, and it rocks, and is only 45 cal. for 2 tbsp. They also have a ranch, bleu cheese, and others.

Just plain balsamic vinegar...they are about 10-15 calories a tablespoon depending on the brand.

I used dijon honey mustard and apple cider vinegar. Another low cal option is salsa. I had to stop using premade dressings because of the sodium and sugar stats.
  • You can mix plain Greek Yogurt (I use 2%) with a few tsp of Ranch dressing seasoning packet mix (almost calorie free). It's a great dip for veggies and tastes better than the real thing!
