This is a funny thing. Not funny haha but fickle funny. I have found that it really depends on the manufacturer and the store as to what size I will wear. I can wear anywhere from a small to an extra large. It all depends on who made the garment or what store I bought it.
I have learned that I basically wear a medium top and size 8 jeans most of the time….but that is not a given. There is a boutique here in town where I tried on jeans that where size 4 and they were too big! Go figure…
If I go to the Gap I buy extra larger top most of the time. At Old Navy I buy anywhere from a large to a medium and rarely a extra large. At Wal-Mart I buy small most of the time. Wal-Mart’s George brand I will wear a size large to a extra large. I also have jeans and tops that are the same brand, same style, same cut and they wont even fit the same. I have found when it comes to my jeans (like I said…they are just alike in every way) one pair will be tight, one pair will be too lose and another pair will fit just right. Get the picture?
I went from a size 30 jeans to a size 8. While I was losing I walked out in my yard one day and my jeans fell down. I had on a long top so I didn’t flash anyone and it was in the back yard and I was alone. But that was when I knew I had lost a good bit of weight.
Keep this in mind when trying on clothes…..Size is just a number. Take your measurements and don’t judge your progress by the size on the label in your clothes.
You are doing great! Keep up the good work. :flowerforyou:

It will depend on your height, I am 5'9" and started at 247 lbs and a size 22, then around 230 I went to a solid 20 and now at 216 I am a solid 18.

Also, like stated before, there doesn't seem to be a universal sizing system in place anymore. It depends on where the garment is made and the fabrics used to make it. Jeans are not all created equally thats why one size by levis and the same size by another brand one fits and one doesn't.

My daughter is long and lean and wears anywhere from a juniors size 7 to a misses size 2 and some shirts are xl and some are small. It's not easy to shop anymore!

Good luck, 11 lbs is great and when you do drop a size it will feel magnificent!!!

Also, remember that you don't necessarily lose the weight in what I call the "size places" first. You may have lost your eleven pounds in your hands, your face and your feet. . . frustrating but true. I find that I go in spurts. . . wearing the same size for some time and then wham! down a size or even two.

Also, sizes are crazy. I had a long rant just a few weeks ago. I've read that this is a trick to inspire brand loyalty by the clothing manufacturers. I will shop at a specific store because I know what size I am there. I've recently relocated to Canada, and the stores are different, so I'm re-learning the ropes. I'm going to the states for a visit, and can't wait to go to Target and clean them out of their Isaac Mizrahi clothes. Also, my new favorite trick is to buy what fits and cut the size tag out when I get home.

And hey, LoJo, I too had a "pants fall down" experience... in the produce market. Luckily, I pulled them up before anyone noticed (I hope.)

The size difference will come. Be patient with yourself. :flowerforyou:

I still can’t believe it. :noway: When I catch a glimpse of myself in a window or mirror up town I still can’t believe that woman is really me.

webebeer you are doing great. Before you know it your pants WILL be falling down. When they do fall down do the happy dance. We will come bail you out of jail when they arrest you for dancing in public without any pants on. hehehe
You Go Girl! Keep up the good work. You WILL be rewarded with falling down pants. :flowerforyou:
  • What they are saying about size being different depending on brand is true. I sold retail for several years and know that some brands run really small and some run really big. This was really brought home when my skinny teenage daughter (never bigger than a size 6 and 5'10") had to try on a pair of size 14 designer jeans. She quickly decided she didn't like that brand.

I think that everyone is different. I have been working out (not so much the last 2 weeks) and dieting, and i have only lost 3 pounds, but i have lost 2 inches off my waist and i think i finally went from a size 14 to a 12. In the last year of dieting off and on, i have lost 4 inches off my waist, but only 13 pounds.
so i think it depends on the rate you are gaining muscle, and losing fat, and where you are losing it.
dont be discouraged, i get that way too, and this morning i tried on pants that i have had hanging in my closet forever and could button them for the first time since i dont know when. i get upset becuase i dont lose weight. I get on the scale everyday and it still says 198.
