My best friends daughter is graduating high school and I am invited to her party. She is not moving away to school and I hate giving money. Anyone got any suggestions for ideas.

I know a lot of people feel money is impersonal but what would SHE think of it? I know all I wanted at that age was money. I would think more along the lines of what she would appreciate. Just a thought! :)

I like the Dr. Seuss book "Oh the Places You'll Go" for graduates. I know it is a kid's book, but the message is pretty inspiring for anyone facing new beginnings.

I bet she would like some money. I'd like some too, actually.

Gas cards are very popular with the younger set!

Good quality linen paper stock for resumes and cover letters is also a great gift and fairly inexpensive.

    I second MisMolly's suggestion.

I have given the book to several special graduating seniors as a gift. I also handwrite an inspirational quote on the inside cover and include an American Express Gift Check.

Even though this young lady may not be going away to college, the money can help with books if she is going to attend a local college over the summer or in the fall.

I would automatically assume that a high school grad is going to get a copy of the Dr. Seuss book and let the cliché come from someone else.

Do you hate all forms of money, such as gift cards? I give my niece gift cards for gas stations pretty frequently. Then she knows she has budgeted for gas.

Does she have a hobby? Does she need one? I am now trying to imagine the look on an 18yos face if someone gave them an adult hula hoop for graduation:) Actually, games can be fun, especially with a note reminding them that while yes, all those responsibility speeches they have heard are true, they can still have fun!!

I have to agree with the gas card gift. My daughter is graduating from HS this year and I know she would appreciate that.

gifts that we have given, and we are invited to a lot of parties!
    emergency car kit
    small tool set
    dishes
    beach towels
    collapable hampers
luggage that they can use back and forth to go home
i pick up clearance items and keep them in the closet for these parties.
kids always sound gracious from these gifts, especially guys because they don't have to shop for these items like for their college apartments
bigger gifts we've had others go in on are; mini fridges and hot plates, vacuum cleaners, mini microwave, plug in car coolers.

    good luck
