Calorie burn rates during exercise?

I am not sure I can believe the calorie burn rates that MFP provides.
For example, 25 mins cycling 14-16mph burns over 400 cals
30 mins running 7.5mph burns over 500 cals
To me, this seems very high. Are these figures accurate?

Get a HRM!!!! That's the ONLY way to know exactly what your burn is! MFP is a "guesstimate". Everyone is individual - depending on weight, intensity and length of workout!0

I know what you mean because I do 60 minutes on my elliptical trainer and it shows that I burn over 1000 calories and MFP states that it's much lower. I think that it doesn't take into concideration that I keep my trainer at a 9-10% tension the entire time I'm on it. i just adjust the calorie burn amount.0

Yes, I agree they seem higher. I usually just decrease the time to get a lesser calorie number.... But the HRM is the best way to go.0

I thought they seemed high for soI think they seem high for some things and low for others. I wore a HRM for my usual aerobics class a few weeks ago and it said over 480 cals, whereas MFP calculates an hour of aerobics at about 360, which seems far too low.0
