Calorie zig-zagging or calorie shifting. Here's a plan that I found:
•Monday - 1200
•Tuesday - 1500
•Wednesday - 1300
•Thursday - 1200
•Friday - 1600
•Saturday - 1200
•Sunday - 1500

Zig zagging is what I do. One day I am high and the next I am low. I have been trying to stick to this as well. It tricks your body to think that you need to burn off the extra calories that you put in. One day I'll eat 1200 and the next 1700 and then back to 1200 and so on...0

spike day, free day, cheat day, splurge day, day off0

I don't understand how this concept of high/low cals works. If this logic worked, then, wouldn't it be a knife that cuts both ways?
Can't it backfire and work the opposite way, too? As in, you eat LOW cals, your metabolism drops. Then, you do HIGH cals, and your lowered metabolism barely touches those extra ones? I dunno?0 -
Refeed0

I don't know what it's called but I have a feeling it works. I had been under calories all week, exercise 6 days and then BAM! I was invited to a baby shower at the last minute. I skipped my low calorie dinner and exercise and went. I ate a moderate amount of bad stuff and had a great loss! Let us know if you find anything, Good Luck!0

There's the concept of cheat or free days which is one day off or there's calorie zig-zagging/cycling0
-
that's why you do it every other day and not for days at a time. your metabolism wont sink after one day of eating low.0

One day of low cal won't hurt you. It all comes down to overall cal in vs. cal out over a 7 day period. I did this and lost 80 lbs it works quite well! Keeps your body/metabolism guessing! Your metabolism needs confusion just like your muscles.0 -
it works but not for long it does has that backward thing as least for me it did0

I've seen it called refeeding. Some people respond well to it and will see a loss after eating maintenance calories for one day after a week or two with a significant calorie deficit. For others, it may not help as much. It is the principle behind zigzagging, which does seem to work great for many people here.0

When u are zig zagging at 1200 1 day, 1500 the next and 1300 the following..... are u not excercising to boost the calories? Considering you should try to eat most of the calories burned from a workout?
Just curious if people do this for a weeks span WITHOUT excercise to TRICK the body????

If it's done properly, no, it won't backfire. To do it properly, you need to first make sure that your calories still average out to meet your daily goal. As in, for the week, if you're supposed to have 10500 cals (1500 cals per day), then you still need to meet that goal. But instead of every day being 1500, you vary the amount of cals each day.
And you still should not have days that are less than 1200. And the low days shouldn't be done all in a row. That said, one or two low days will not slow the metabolism significantly. It takes a fairly consistent low level of intake over many days or weeks to slow the metabolism. Might help to read this:

Carbohydrate cycling or Carb cycling is a 6 day program that will allow your body to burn bodyfat while still retaining muscle mass.
Thats why its populair among bodybuilders.
Keep in mind that this type of diet is pretty hard because on low carb days you will rly need to focus on what you are eating and when you are eating it to avoid having your metabolism slow down.
Having a low carb day wont slow your metabolism down if you eat every 3 hours orso with smaller portions.0 -

I wouldnt necessarily use this plan - someone posted a great link which calculates what calories you should be eating based on your current weight and weight loss goal - unfortunately I can't find it now :grumble:0 -

Since defined amounts of food calories are very subjective (inaccurate) it's pretty tough to be accurate with calorie counts as a whole let alone trying some sort of zig-zag diet sheesh. Eat sensible portions or healthy foods and exercise a few days a week and you'll be right where you want to be in no time.0
