Going to Vegas (baby!) on our first 'alone' vacay in over 12 years this week. Looking for "in the know" advice on awesome places to dine. Not really interested in the buffet thing - cool places with amazing food worth the calories! Any tips/advice/pointers truly appreciated! WOOT!

    Sensible shoes.
    Seriously lol!
Last time I went with my husband, we were hanging out at the outdoor patio @ Margaritaville and we were amazed at how many women were walking around in stilettos and very high heels. Surely enough, we also saw many women walking barefoot with their stilettos in hand. You walk everywhere so sensible shoes!

Serendipity....well I wouldn't suggest it if you are trying to watch what you eat there...I know when I went I didn't watch anything I ate because I wanted to have a fun experience without worrying.. Serendipity is across from the Flamingo...They have AMAZING food and their desserts are EVEN BETTER! have fun...It is my favorite place on earth!!

Hard Rock Cafe... it's a block or so off the strip, but the atmosphere is awesome and the food is pretty good.

I definately second the good shoes... you really do a lot of walking!

There is an awesome steakhouse in one of the casinos, but I can't remember which one... I think it was the Monte Carlo. Best steak I've had (besides this fancy place in New Orleans.. and Ruth Chris' Steakhouse lol).

There are some amazing resturants in Vegas. I don't know what your budget is or what you like but you can google some great places. Down town off of Freemont experience is a place called Triple George (coupon on restuarant.com) also there's Rosemary's in the East part of town that's amazing but very pricy. At the Green Valley Resort there is one of Hell's Kitchen Resturants, also one at Red Rock. There's some pretty amazing dinning at Aria as well. Hope that helps.

And... if you are going to do a buffet, do it for lunch but eat late - at like 2 or 3 (i think the lunch ends at 3) and it's like 1/2 the price, but the exact same foods as dinner. WE ate at like 2:30 and didn't need a dinner. The only buffet I would suggest is the one at Paris - it was really really good for a buffet!

Have a blast! I can't wait to get back there!!! :)
And yes... wear sensible shoes! The first time I went, I wore flip flops and my feet swelled!
Also, you HAVE to visit Freemont St. totally worth the cab ride. Buy some cheap beers in one of the convenience stores right there and watch the "Freemont Experience" which is every 30 or 60 minutes... it is so cool!

Also they have this fun little place in Excalibur (or at least they used to) where you could dress up as kings & queens, etc and get your pictures done. Okay so its not food, but its a lot of fun!

Okay, it's a buffet, but this one is totally worth it if you have the will power to make it past the gellato. The Rio's buffet has an awesome salad bar and then a cook your own stir fry station. You pick the veggies, meat, tofu, whatever you fancy. It is AWESOME. You can buy a discount voucher at Tix4Tonight and a free shuttle to the Rio leaves from Balley's. Hope you have an awesome trip!

My husband and I took a trip out to Vegas back in March...and I was worried about what I could eat. I brought some packaged nuts and jerky with me to help out the cravings. Then for Breakfast I would eat eggs or lunch I got a grilled chicken salad. Plus they also have a store on the strip or right by the strip you can go to....I didnt gain or lose anything that week but then started losing the next. Hope you guys have a safe and fun trip!! :)

A little bit off the diet plan (well ok... a lot off the diet plan)... Toby Keiths I love this Bar and Grill serves amazing burgers (fries weren't bad either)

Breakfast on the Cheap was La Cantina which was down by the MGM near the M&M Store... 99 cent Blood Marys and Eggs, Toast and Sausage for under $3.

We had dinner one night down in Freemont at one of the casino's... 7.99 Rib Eye steak with Potato and Veggies and Salad Bar... Think it was Fitzgeralds... very well done and reasonably quiet. It was a change in pace and nice to sit down. But then I think most Casino food is comparable.

Lots to see and do in Vegas, we lost track of time some nights and found many of the restaurants had closed by the time we felt hungry.

You'll likely burn off many calories from walking. I ran the 3-4 miles on the strip every morning and walked probably two to three times as far later in the day.

Have Fun! Don't forget to tip your waitresses...Especially the ones who bring you free drinks. If you don't you won't see them again.

    Free shows to check out...

    Volcano at the Mirage
Water show at the Bellagio (changes every time)
    Sirens at Treasure Island

For paid shows, get tickets at the Tix for Tonight Kiosks... usually about half price for any of the shows you'd want to see. We saw two Cirque du Soleil shows for $100 a person.

I just went to Vegas for New Year's, and again the first week in May. Sensible shoes are definitely a must. You'll be doing a lot of walking and standing. I did the stilettos and heels in my 20s and 30s, but now that I have much more sense, I have learned to put comfort and safety over the stilettos.

There were 2 very fancy and a bit pricey restaurants I went to that were well worth the money and the calories: Todd English's Olives (inside the Bellagio) and Simon restaurant in The Palm Place Hotel (adjacent to the Palms). Both had unique food creations, great service and very nice atmosphere!! The meals will definitely WOW you!! Awesome dining experience.

Not sure how long you'll be there, but there is also something call the All Stage Pass, which allows you to see as many shows as you can fit into a 48 hour period for only $99. There are 20 shows to choose from, and are in Bally's, Ceasar's, Flamingo, Harrah's, Rio, Paris, Imperial Palace and Planet Hollywood. There is also a related program called Buffet of Buffets which gives you unlimited access to seven buffets within a 24 hour period for only $44.99. Participating buffets include Rio, Plannet Hollywood, Caesar's, Harrah's, Flamingo and Imperial Palace. Rio has an excellent seafood buffet.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Fitzgerald's. And they also have zip-lining over Freemont Street. Looked like so much fun!!! I am a few pounds over the weight limit (250) right now, but am already planning another trip for next spring so I can do that!! The botanical gardens inside the Bellagio (free) are so beautiful, and the free mardi gras style show inside the Rio is a lot of fun!! The floats are suspended from tracks on the ceiling, and they throw beaded necklaces down to you!!!

I didn't worry about going over my calories too much because I worked out early every morning, then I also included the calories burned while walking around during the day. That was typically 3 hours of walking at 2.5 mph or 2.0 mph. I was there for 7 days. Came back to the same weight, then the following week I had a nice loss!!
