One thing that I used to love to snack on was tortilla chips and salsa, but since the jarred salsa in the store is PACKED with sodium I quit eating it.

And I miss it. So I'd like to attempt to make my own, but I'm not sure where to start.

Does anyone have any healthier salsa and/or other dip recipes?

    2 or 3 roma tomatos, 3 cloves garlic (minced or pressed), 1 med jalapeno (stem removed), 1/2 sm onion, 3/4 c loose packed fresh cilantro, juice from 1 fresh lime. Put it in a food processor or food chopper until well chopped. You can do it by hand but it just takes longer.

    I also substitute 2 tomatos for mango sometimes for a sweeter salsa

    Have you tried this one?

    I also found this one:
    Simple Salsa (Website: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=59632 )
    Use this quick recipe to flavor all sorts of dishes, from meats (try baking chicken breasts in it) to multi-ingredient Mexican entrees (like tacos, taco salad, enchiladas, and quesadillas).

    Ingredients:

    * 2 large, ripe tomatoes
    * 1/4 cup mild or sweet onion
    * 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
    * 3 tablespoons canned, diced green chilies
    * 2 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
    * 1/8 teaspoon salt
    * 1 clove garlic, pressed or minced (or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder)
    * Freshly ground pepper

    Preparation:
    1. Dice the tomatoes, onion, and cilantro into chunks using a knife. Put them in a blender or small food processor.
    2. Add the chilies, vinegar, salt, garlic or garlic powder, and pepper to the blender, and pulse briefly to blend. Pour into a serving bowl. Cover and keep in refrigerator until needed.

    Serve with 8 cups reduced-fat tortilla chips.

    NOTE: If you don't have a blender or food processor, dice all the ingredients into the smallest pieces possible, place in medium bowl, and stir to blend well.

    Yield:
    10 servings, 1/4 cup each (2 1/2 cups of salsa).

    This is very similar to mine. I roast the tomatoes and peppers, skin them, and then into a blender until I have it just right. (I like it pureed ) and add a lil water to thin it out. If you taste it and feel like it needs salt add accordingly and make sure you write it down. ;)

    I usually read what the ingredients are on some and just use fresh instead and make it to my own personal tastes

    I have a really good recipe already posted on my blog at http://kristen-foodismyfriend.blogspot.com. I don't have any ads on my site, so I am not promoting anything, just sharing. I think it is under salsa. It is red pepper salsa, really easy and really good!! Good luck.
