clothes *tighter* after months of exercise

OK, this is specific to the areas where the muscles are getting worked, so I don't mean this is a terrible thing.
My pants and especially underwear are ill-fitting now because my butt muscles have pumped up so much....they want to slide down all the time. I'm trying not to buy new undies because I'm hoping when I lose some more of the fat that lies on top of those muscles, it will even out again. I do the elliptical machine 45 mins/5 days on high ramp and resistance numbers. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Not necessarily my body area/exercise specifically, but having their clothes becomes tighter in some areas due to muscle gains, before they loosen up due to fat loss? And no, I am not in denial and saying I've gained muscle to explain a weight gain, I am *losing weight* on the scale too.

This is a common adaptation to exercise. If the bulkiness is bothering you, take the intensity down for two workouts a week. Keep your heart rate in the 55-70% zone. You'll be burning fat as your fuel. In a few weeks, you'll notice a marked decrease in the amount of body fat you have to fight with.

My hubby wears polo shirts to work and after a couple months of cardio and weight lifting, the sleeves are really tight. He also mentioned that his bicycle shorts are tight at the bottom, around his thighs. I'll tell you what I tell him---give it time and keep exercising but not as hard. What nastsedat said sounds like good advice. Give it a try for a few weeks.0
